Anyone tried Holy Black shavette?

Hi all -- Been a dog's age since I've visited -- life has a way of taking me ever farther from the online world! But as I find my interest in shaving gear re-igniting, I keep getting interested in the Holy Black shavette. It looks much, much more substantial than any other kind I've seen, so it seem...

Sale or Trade: Chanel Bleu

I've got a completely full 3.4 oz bottle (minus two sprays) of Chanel Bleu. Turned out the SO didn't care for it. Would prefer a trade for any of the following razors of, I hope approximately similar value or close enough with some cash: Gillette '50s Aristocrat Gillette '50s Diplomat or President v...

Oh, and by the way--there is nothing visible wrong with these blades. No spots, no mold or mildew, no discoloration, nothing at all. They don't seem wet, either, though they've been repeatedly exposed to steamy air. They just smell weird. Perhaps I will indeed try to dry them out and store in the fr...

Thanks for the replies, fellas. I don't know quite what I have going on, but it's annoying--I live in New England, which I would hardly characterize as particularly humid. But I have a drawer full of blades I sure hope I don't end up having to toss, 'cause they're not easily replaced. Some old stock...

Musty smelling razor blades?

Howdy, gentlemen-- haven't been by to visit in a while, so howdy again! I was shaving tonight with a New Belmont, one of my favorite old Gillettes. The blade was dragging something fierce, so I grabbed a NOS Swedish Gillette and popped it in. Aaaah! Beautiful. But what was that whiff of mustiness I ...

*SOLD* Gillette Aristocrat #66

This is my best looking razor by a long shot, but I just bought a new guitar, so the razor must go. It's in good shape, with only some slight clouding and pitting on the finish above the handle (readily visible below). The handle is glowing with rhodium goodness. Price dropped from $95 shipped CONUS...

I may be wrong, but I believe these (French?) razors take a proprietary blade.

Hmm. I just pop the top off with with my thumb as above, then turn the razor over, letting the top (and blade) fall a half-inch or so into my other hand. Then I put down the razor, pick up the top, and drop the blade out onto the counter. I'm therefore never touching the blade until it's completely ...

PIF: Sharp Practice

One of our fine members sent me the book Sharp Practice to read, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. So now it's time to pass it along, with the caveat that you in turn must pass it along when you're done! First to PM me gets the book shipped to you (CONUS) at my expense. Enjoy-- You can check out the b...

I tried some variants of the NEW with only okay results, and then I got my hands on a NEW Belmont (at least I think that's what it is!), and it became my favorite Gillette. With its much heavier handle, it's a very aggressive shaver, like L. Martino above alludes to. It's more aggressive than my Sla...

Hmm. You're making me wish I hadn't peeled off the linen from my replacement strop! The leather was quite thick, so I had to or it wouldn't fit. But I need another anyway... I do strop before and after. Maybe it was just a bad day or something. I'm going to give it another 10-minute hone and see wha...

I've been wondering about the idea of strop paste for both Rolls razors and for a Wilkinson 7-day wedge set I've got (with an extra strop, it turns out). Is there any reason this wouldn't work? I'm also curious about something I've observed. I got a NOS Rolls blade in shaveable condition by using th...
