Is it truly sanitary to use the same razor with a new blade in it? If Barbasol or similar is the answer, then why not for the blade as well? A Feather straight is a lot harder to get clean (in the areas that contact the customer) than an ordinary straight. I guess it depends on how it's sanitized. ...

I'm distressed but not surprised by the comments above. Like a lot of other things, barbering ain't what it used to be. Or at least what I'd like to remember it being. When I see a lack of attention to things like changing blades I almost always see problems with other aspects of sanitation in a sho...

I use both conventional and Japanese style Feather AC razors for barbering. Do barbers that use these change the blades for each customer? :?: Yeah, I do. It's mandated by the local health code. Even if it wasn't, I'd do it anyway. Much like the Feather DE blades, I find the AC blades often exhibit...

Now, if we could just get some of that soap!! I don't think it would be much different than the glycerin soap Pears makes today. I've tried that a few times and it's not bad if you like those types of soaps. While solidly behind the sentiment from "Bell's Weekly Messenger," my vote for th...

I use both conventional and Japanese style Feather AC razors for barbering. I prefer the Professional blades over the Super Professional blades and prefer those to the Light blades. Shaves, neck shaves - any thing that requires an open blade - they're a fabulous tool... when used on someone else. I ...

Maybe It's Not Your Technique

From the August 21, 2010 issue of New Scientist magazine: Nickel allergy is the most common contact allergy in the western world, with people affected reacting to costume jewellery, coins and even medical implants. Now we know why: it seems nickel imitates the action of bacteria. Matthias Goebeler a...

I very much agree with your observation on finding that "sweet spot," Gordon. I shave well over a dozen gentlemen every week. Each and every customer presents a different beard and skin combo and each and every customer requires a different prep to get to that sweet spot that has their whi...

The real Yardley English Lavender soap is still made in England but is very hard to find in the US and is sold for high prices by the few outfits that do stock it. It's still excellent although not as good as it was now that they too have gone to a veg. oil base. Regards, Gordon We can get both soa...

I barber as a trade. Some barbers I know swear by the Latherizer. Some hate 'em. My co-worker and I got one and, having established that the Campbell concentrate wasn't what we wanted, had a fairly good run trying all different kinds of shave creams at different dilutions. I think our two best outin...

I like Feathers. I liked them from the start and am one of the fortunate who can use them every day. I ordered a couple of hundred Iridiums just before they stopped making them and to be honest, they're kind of "meh" for me. Not bad but I have to work harder with Iridiums and don't get as ...

I think, despite the slight size differences, all these big Omegas feel and perform about the same. I agree. You can look at different vendor's sites and see the same brush models listed with slightly different knot sizes. You know, the knot being a millimeter wider - the loft a few millimeters lon...
