I found that with Proraso, I get the best results by rubbing it on like it was a brushless, then using a wet brush - and I end up with enough on the brush for extra passes. With L'occitane CADE soap, there is no room in the bowl yet, so I get some soap on the brush and build the lather on my face. I...

If they are black, that might be tarnished silver. I have a number of early gillettes that arrived totally black, and are now bright and shiny, as a result of silver polish and some vigorous rubbing.

I have one just like that. Like a Ranger, but with no writing in the smooth band, and covers on the side. Or like an early superspeed with a smooth band above the knob. The missing link.....? Like they were using up Ranger Tech handles with new Super Speed heads? What about the reverse, has anyone s...

a google search on 'double edge patient prep razor' gets you lots of hits.... ASR even makes them, using 'comfort coated stainless steel blades".... They seem to go for about 35 cents apiece in bulk, hundred piece lots.... but they probably don't give you that wonderful 'superspeed' weighted ba...

I think I read somewhere that electric razors are more popular in Europe than the US, and that the reason is that in the average european bathroom after WWII, one was much more likely to have an electric outlet than a good source of hot water. And in such a situation, I can see preferring an electri...

If they are the same as DORCO blades (the only blades I know of from South Korea), they should be very good blades. I have used DORCO blades and they are as good as or better than the ASR/Personna, Israeli noname, Derby, and they are better than the German made Wilkinsons.

They are made by ASR, and I've seen them sold by CVS, Eckerd, the military exchange system, and a few other house brands. I have (and have used) examples that are labelled "Stainless Steel", and other examples that are lablelled "Platinum Chromium". The platinum chromium version,...

Regarding the lack of damage - The only visible damage on my regent tech is a bent tooth. If it were not an open comb, I think the same impact would not be visible - i.e. it would have bent the base plate without making a mark. I merely posit that a razor can be misaligned as the result of a fall, o...

It is one of Henry Dreyfuss's designs. I would guess that once they had it in hand, someone inside ASR did the Contour II, i.e. made it cheaper. And as to how much it is worth, these don't come up as often as the other Gems, but they do come up. I think one difficulty is they are not always identifi...

I can confirm that the pushbutton shaves reasonably well, though not as well as the micromatic or 1912, at least based on having used all three. And the Featherweight also comes in black. And I found that one is not up to the GEM standard. Not sure why, and its not all that bad, but I would not reco...

While they did make so many million razors that its not impossible that a bad one slipped out, might not a drop from four or five feet onto a tile floor introduce a misalignment like the one you describe? I have a Regent tech that looks like its fine, but is out of alignment. The clue as to how this...

Tried DORCO blades. Liked them.

In spite of the name. I had picked these up in a korean owned beauty/barber supply shop near Odenton, Maryland. Four dollars for a ten pack, though I suspect they can be had cheaper online. Today, I tried one. FABULOUS. Proraso directly on the face, cheap badger brush made excellent lather. Dorco bl...

Should I try them, or keep the packages intact?.

Found these in a couple of bunches of razors/blades from ebay. The DEs were in a batch of other Shick regular DEs new in their 5 blade packs, and the Twin Injector blades came with a new unopened Schick Adjustable Injector. Anyone ever shave with them? http://upload4.postimage.org/711050/DSC01306.jp...
