Dave, nice job, as always. The rounded corners are very attractive. These handles are pretty light, and with the quick-drying synthetic knot, this could be an excellent travel brush - maybe my next project.

Saturday

Gillette English Tech w/ Israeli IP blade
Opal handle w/ TGN silvertip knot
Valobra Menthol soap
Nivea Cooling balm

I'm not much of a menthaholic, but mid-July is a fine time to pull this stuff out.

Dave, congratulations: It looks like you have an excellent brush on your hands.

Did the metal ring complicate removing the old knot? Did you leave the ring in place or take it off?

Robert, thank you for sharing the news with us directly. You know SMF; we'd have been circulating all kinds of strange rumors if given half a chance.

Wow, this is good news. Musgo Real is one of the very few creams I still use, and I'm eager to try their soap. Their classic scent is perfectly fine by me.

I agree about the fine lather, but a downside for me is that I like my lather to smell like something - cedar, sandalwood, lavender, citrus, almond, rose, violet, vetyver, even frankincense - almost anything, rather than nothing.

That handle is a sure-fire winner. Glad to hear you're probably going with badger; for me the question would be, fan or bulb shape? (I know how I would go.) I have experience with only one horse bristle brush, a Zurito. It's definitely not "quite stiff," and not even in the ballpark with b...

After a thorough washing, a test hand-lathering, and 4 face-lathering real shaves, I think it's settled into its final form: http://www.numoonus.com/Shave/Brushes/Aramis/Aramis_Bloomed_c1.jpg I would have thought that a 19mm knot was pretty small, but this brush picks up and lays down a lot of soap....

Thank you, Steve; knowing that helps me appreciate the brush more.

By the way, this brush is now called "Wang Chung."

I'm lucky to have received a PIF'ed Kent T12, which measures 30 x 58 by my calipers. I use it every couple of months, and when it's the right choice for the morning, it can't be beat. I'm also lucky to have won a Wee Scott in one of Phil's early contests. It lives in my travel kit. I never use it at...

Aramis Brush Refurb

Awhile ago I picked up what I thought was a nice looking brush handle on The Bay. I see why nobody bid against me, because the knot was obviously in poor shape. http://www.numoonus.com/Shave/Brushes/Aramis/Old_Knot.jpg The brush was made for Aramis, no indication of the date: any speculation would b...

Congratulations, Brian! Reknotting isn't part of this hobby I indulge in very often, but sometimes the urge just hits me, and I need to do one. Very fulfilling, and you're right, a great value.

I get two very comfortable shaves out of the Greens before they crash like an alkaline battery - abrupt and utter failure (I say they go West on me, because I'm in California). This trait makes Greens annoying to use at home, but they shine on short business trips. I'm on a two shave trip right now ...

Today's Eclipse

Did anybody else enjoy today's annular eclipse? I was pretty excited about it. I found a NASA PDF to tell me the exact timings here, and I embraced my inner 3rd grader and made a pinhole projection device. Soon after the eclipse started I made my wife come out in the backyard and look at my dumb pin...

Chris, how warm are we talking about inside that Kleen-Dri? A balmy 85F or a cooked pork chop 150F? (I tried Googling, but it seems that Kleen-Dri isn't a trending piece of gear at the moment.)

I'm totally on board with this project, because I too prefer soaps to creams: no right or wrong, just personal preference. For example, my tub of RazoRock Classic is now a pleasure to use, ever since I left it open on the fireplace mantel for several months last fall and winter. It's about as hard a...
