Re: TSA question re shaving gear

I mail some blades ahead of time so they are waiting for me, or put one in checked luggage. When I am packing I take a resealable sandwich bag and write "NO BLADES" on each side in giant letters, and then I put my DE razor (disassembled!) into the bag. On travel day, the baggie goes into a...

A tribute to the 2006 SMF brush

Back in late 2006, there was a bespoke brush by Rooney for the SMF community, the "ShaveMyFace III Brush." Somehow I convinced my very dubious wife to order one as a Christmas present. Thanks again to the mod who helped her -- Dr. Moss, I believe. http://forum.shavemyface.com/viewtopic.php...

Re: Mukluks

I agree: you really need two different kinds of boots: waterproof *or* warm.

I put silicone sealant on the leather parts of these mukluks, and they will have to be saved for temps under freezing (when I can brush off snow before it melts). Still, I love them. :7)

Mukluks

A couple of weeks ago, I finally bought something I have wanted for years: mukluks! They are handmade in Ely, Minnesota, the far north; the company is Steger Mukluks. They are made of moose hide, with canvas running up to my knee. Long moosehide lashes are wrapped around my calves to snug them down....

Re: LL Bean shoppers (looking at you, Wendell)

One thought: order winter stuff now on sale, and f you don't like it in a year, you can return it (again, I know). The past few years they have been running with more and more items coming up as "back ordered" when the season isn't over yet. *shrug* Now I just order as soon as I see someth...

Wasn't Othello kind of a dumbed-down version of the ancient game called Go?

Electric shaver for women

I know a woman who needs to switch to an electric razor, per her doctor. Can anyone either recommend a good one, warn against a bad one, or point out a source for reviews?

Thanks in advance!

I live in Rhode Island, about 15 minutes drive from the Cross plant (and company store, which I have yet to visit!). They do still make some items here, though definitely not everything.

Tonight it was raining as I drove home, so the thick smoke from the Autocrat Coffee plant -- which next to the freeway, merely behind a row of trees -- had settled across the road like a wall of fog. I blasted my A/C to suck in as much as possible and took deep, joyous breaths of the lovely stink un...

I grew up about two blocks from a shop that roasted their own coffee, and that's about the minimum distance for the smell to be nice.

My parents -- more than comfortable in the kitchen -- tried roasting some green beans themselves and we ended up fleeing the house! Good times, good times....

Greg, I would be worried if you hadn't! I love that stuff.

Moka pots are fun, but don't let yours boil too much or it will spray evil, hard-to-remove coffee tar all over your stove. :7(

Also, back in the 1980s I used to paint fantasy gaming miniatures for a store near my house, who used them for displays and sold them. I got some store credit and they got something different to display...it was fun! I think I only saved one, though: a dwarf from an early Warhammer set that I bought...

My kids actually like both Settlers of Cataan and Carcassonne, especially the boys (8 and 10 years old).

It's fun to play with them and watch as their sense of strategy -- and the rightness of betraying one's family -- develops right there in plain view. :7)
