Re: Who still regularly uses 3Ts / DRH / Pens soap/cream
In my case, I have Taylors and Penhaligons in my active rotation. Traditional English classics seem to be spoken about much less frequently in the shaving forums and in social media sites these days because of massive changes taking place in the industry over the last few years. TOBS creams are sti...

Re: Taking a break from the news
Lately I've been mulling over selecting just 1 source for my news, while being skeptical of everything I read. 1 source means it's hard to get inundated. So, for example, I have Google News on my phone, which I set up for topics of interest and certain alerts. Aside from that, I don't read anything...

Never been there but I want to visit_____ Chicago, to go to a ballgame at Wrigley Field. Owen, Back in the early 80's, I was a batboy and clubhouse attendant (clubbie) at Wrigley Field. jt I'm jealous, that must have been great. I am working on the basis that I won't get to go to many such things i...

Re: Longevity of Taylor's shaving soap
I have a cake of Taylor's Lime soap that has been used for 34 shaves since it was new. When I discovered the Penhaligons Sartorial soap is only giving up .34 grams of soap with every shave, I decided to weigh the TOBS Lime and figure out how it compares to the Pen's. To my surprise, Taylor's is doi...

Re: Trumper's Rose - current production
Those of us who are familiar with GFT soaps can testify that the GFT soaps are very hard (in a good way), and they last a very long time. Why didn't I list DRH soaps? Because even though it has tallow and their range of scents makes it possible for almost everyone to find a favorite, it is not as h...

Re: For the Old Timers: Best Value* Wet Shaving Products?
I would like to ask the wet shavers who have been in the niche' a while what NON ARTISAN products they think represent a "best value" (great deal, best bang for the buck, punch above their weight, etc.) in old school wet shaving.... So...what are the best deals out there? A Palmolive stic...

Re: It's all about the blade
Since starting a job a couple of years with a longish commute I've gone back to the safety razor for speed (one and done) in the mornings and just shave with the straight on the weekends. I only hone a couple of times a year now - I'm happy enough with this approach.

Re: What starter set would you recommend now?
I have an Omega Black and find that the bristles appear to be clipped to form the shape and they are scratchy. I would prefer a Razorock Monster synthetic that you can purchase online for $10 plus shipping. The tips are not scratchy and flex just right for me. I use a shave stick that was hard and ...

Re: What starter set would you recommend now?
I suppose I could have recommended Valobra soap in the currently offered cake. I was just recommending soap, independent of how it's used. That being said, I don't use it as a shave stick, myself. The Valobra shave stick is just the right size to grate up and mash into a one-cup Pyrex bowl, allowin...

What starter set would you recommend now?
I've been looking around the B&M stores recently as I've needed to do a bit of shopping for various (child related) things. It occurred to me that compared to when I started out there's still a reasonable amount of stuff in the stores when it comes to creams, soaps and even brushes - although mo...

Re: Changes in shaving due to necessity
Well, Gary, I live in a retirement community -- a youngster of 71 compared to the average age which I would guess is 80+. There are a lot of bald / white-hairs here. The great majority are actually well shaven and take pretty good care of themselves, with fairly few scruffy elder gents. I'd be inte...

Hi Everyone,
I just noticed that my 10 year anniversary of joining had just passed. I don't post much as I am in a long term "use it up and don't buy more" state, but I read regularly and wanted to thank you all for all the interesting threads, shaving related or otherwise!

I've currently got 3 Pilot's with fine points inked - a stealth VP, a blue Capless Decimo and a limited edition M90. All with Waterman Florida Blue. I think the Decimo is my favourite. I'm trying to write at least a page long-hand every day in work. The Capless pens do very well at that as I can wri...

From what I hear, it's a shame LL Bean aren't in the UK, they sound like my sort of company. On the same note, has anyone had a brush reknotted by anyone in the EU?

BK4 - Great customer service story and a question
I think I have mentioned this before in the past, but I had a BK4 that started shedding quite alarmingly about 4 years after I bought it. I was a bit upset by this as it happened to be the brush that I shaved with on my wedding day. After the shedding got worse, I put it quietly in a cupboard and mo...

Re: The benefit of in-person shopping
I should also note that there is a shop in the Piccadilly Arcade, just before Jermyn St., that carries a good selection of European shaving kit, which is worth a visit; however, I can't recall the name. Did you mean Maitland's Chemists? It was just at the end of the Arcade. If so, unfortunately it ...

Re: price point for shaving cream
Palmolive Classic sells for cheap ---- perhaps one of our UK members would be willing to procure some for you at cost of postage and product where it's very affordable and easily procurable (Tesco, Asda, Morrison's, etc.). Never mind the price point -- this is very, very good stuff ..... worth well...
