Aveeno makes several gel formula creams in a can that work reasonably well. When I am on travel, I still take my Merkur HD with me, but use the Aveeno cream. The oatmeal based one works really well.

I thought water was the problem, and have added more water each day to build a lather...but I tend to get dilluded shaving cream instead of the thick, rich warm lather I keep hearing so much about.
