Re: How to Lather Shaving Soap in a Bowl or Mug (Video)

I watched the video. What's this guy doing in Mantic's bathroom?

Welcome, Omar.

Re: "That Lather"

Good info in this thread, too. I love SMF: http://forum.shavemyface.com/viewtopic.php?t=42449 And these two have some nice tidbits about T&H and the other similar soaps as well as "that lather" and potassium stearate. http://forum.shavemyface.com/viewtopic.php?t=50186 http://forum.shavemyface.com/v...

Re: "That Lather"

Ah, my memory hasn't completely abandoned me, Gordon to the rescue! There is an eight year old thread here somewhere where Gordon hints about the scuttle version of these type soaps and the Culmak. He knows who makes the T&H, Vintage Blades etc but being the Gentleman he is he explains he can't divu...

Re: "That Lather"

Chris, the Salter soap is one I haven't seen in ages. But yeah, about 8 years ago theirs, the Vintage Blades, and the T&H soaps were clearly all the same: same ingredients and sized the same, shallower and with wider diameter than Taylor or Harris soaps of the same weight. Notably, they all contain...

Re: "That Lather"

You guys are making me wonder how old the Salter soap is. I thought it a fairly recent phenomenon. Anyone have any idea? On another note, it's good to know it smells like the old T&H Luxury soap. I think there is something about those scenting ingredients that don't agree with my skin. I also have t...

Gary, by the way, what is the scent like? Is it a clone of MWF? Or similar even?

Re: Today's lucky find Dubl Duck

Gray, great field report! I wish you many years of enjoyment from that brush, sounds like it's a winner.

On another note, I can't see the brush image anymore. Did we loose something on this site?

Re: "That Lather"

Tim, thanks for the explanation, it helps me understand a little more. Rick, yeah, the old Salter's creams in the white tub (what I have) definitely cheated with SLS. What can I say though, I really like my French Vetiver cream. It gets panned very harshly on a lot of threads for the scent but gosh ...

Re: Truefitt & Hill Creams

Yeah, Bruno, Janus is right. The T&H Sandalwood cream that's available now is reformulated and smells nothing like what the old cream smelled like. I had a pristine old formula T&H Sandalwood tub of cream that I could never bring myself to use because it had been reformulated. About two years ago I ...

Re: Rescuing my GFT Eucris

Gary and Bill, you guys nailed it. We can do extraordinary things to improve a product's performance but in the end, if it's a high quality product, they won't be necessary. After all, we'll all need to shave somewhere other than our own home-base at some point. Who knows what we'll encounter. If it...

Gary, a most excellent strategy! Even if it were a business travel why not enjoy things to the utmost? The fact that you're getting some nice R&R makes it all the more imperative. I wish you pleasure, peace, relaxation, and enjoyment in all your endeavors. Go for it, and enjoy it! Nothing but the be...

Re: Spam?

Brian, I don't know. For myself, I love French cooking. I'm trying think of how Julia Child, Elizabeth David, or even a Provencal housecook might prepare this stuff. I'm thinking they'd treat it like sausage. Though, in reality, they'd probably avoid it altogether unless it were a post WWII situatio...

Just be sure to leave a tap in the kitchen with unsoftened water, since soft water tastes terrible to those used to the hard stuff.
You had to let the cat out of the bag, didn't you? :D

Re: Rescuing my GFT Eucris

Bill, the only advice I can give you is to try distilled water right now. It's soft and can help make a good lather out of the modern stuff. You'll never get "that lather" from modern stuff but it can be worthy under softer conditions. Also, a water softener can also produce wonders. I'll never forg...

Re: "That Lather"

Rick, good post! I believe that C&S soaps are now made by Valobra, the same Italian maker of the old AOS soaps of yore. They made "that lather" as well. Here's hoping C&S sticks to their guns. If they don't it seems there may always be Valobra as the Italians don't seem fazed by the current trends. ...

Re: "That Lather"

Slackskin, I can't speak for the current iteration of D.R. Harris shaving soaps but the soaps of yore (the one I have) were excellent.

I rotated through it recently and it is excellent.

Many report that they are still the same. Here's hoping that is still the case.
