The blade might have been a dud, too. It isn't common, but I've heard this complaint occasionally about even the "better" brands. Enough people do well with this blade, that you can't just say no one should use it. What we do know is that the one blade you tried didn't work for you. - Mur...

I could almost go dry and still get a decent shave from a Derby blade. Considering the amount of prep I did for this particular shave, the SM blade should have done a decent job and not just pulled without actually cutting the whiskers.

Vidyut Supermax blades

I bought a pack of those to try'em out b/c they were fairly cheap. Later on I heard some good things about'em but since I shave with a DE rarely and the Derby blade in my Tech just wouldn't quit, I didn't get around to trying it out until now. Verdict: ABSOLUTE JUNK!!! DO NOT BUY!!! Details: It did ...

I'd still send it out to one of the SRP honemeisters. When I bought a razor from Joe, he also honed it and it shaves as well as anything I've got (with one lone exception). Lynn has over 7000 honed blades under his belt and Josh has been getting some great reviews. I'd offer to help but I have to to...

It's worth the wait just for the longer tang. Even with my small-medium hands, I love the fact that my custom baby has a monkey-tail. Most of the others are just too short to have 2 fingers resting comfortably.

Great review Chris. Good to have a resident mythbuster lol You may want to give the first one another try on the coarse grit hones to remove the corroded metal and then rebuild the edge. 9 times out of 10, it will work. Ofcourse, you'd have to ask the owner for permission due to the hone-wear issues...

I think your strop took too much abuse to be used effectively. The SRP has members from all over the world.. I'm from Canada, there are plenty of European members, a few in Africa, Asia and a decent representation from down under, especially NZ. Anders' book is a very entertaining and informative re...

Sorry to hear about the accident. Sometimes cagers are just plain clueless. I hope you get to go riding again early next season! Make sure the prep's extra good. The sensor should do ok for initial training until she gets comfortable enough to use a real razor. Make sure she gets to know the directi...

In the shower, I wash my face first to remove all of the oils that my skin secreted over the previous 24hrs. As I lather up my hair with the 2in1, I also rub it into the facial hair (the conditioner in it softens up the hair). I leave it on while I'm soaping up. I rinse myself and lather up with a s...

Colleen has her own business and afik has never been associated with Mama Bear other than with a statement that they both make great soaps. We are still waiting for her website to go up, but you can request a price list via e-mail: thegentlemensquarter at verizon dot net. If your skin isn't sensitiv...

Their creams are amazing. I'm just waiting to go through the sweet almond oil cream so I can get my hands on some nomad.
As for their soaps... I've had a lot better, a lot cheaper. Actually I'd rather use a hand soap for shaving. Or just plain water.

You're taking the right steps. Lynn's DVD is a great tool for a beginner but it can also teach an old dog a few new tricks. His honing service has a stellar reputation so he will get your razor shave ready. As for the wife... Now that's a scary problem. I'm assuming that it's too late for the "...

Welcome aboard. Gillette Tech is a very forgiving and easy to use razor. It's the only DE I enjoyed shaving with and that gets to shave me once or twice a month. As for the rest... Well, look at my avatar. Got 9 more where that puppy came from lol

Her soaps are the best I've ever tried. They have amazing scents, the lather is ok but not spectacular, they hydrate extremely well and for the same reason (high clay content) they give the smoothest glide on the market. I have 7 or 8 cakes (4 currently in my soap rotation lol)
