I can see where some would be impressed with Ledger's performance but I didn't care much for it and wasn't much impressed by the movie overall. Good call on not letting your son see it. I applaud any parent who stands up to society in its slide for their younguns' sake. Folks raising their kids like...

That scraping sound is somewhat a function of blade weight/thickness as well. A heavy 7/8 Friodur is nearly silent whereas my lighter narrow Inox frightens birds from the bathroom windowsill. I think the skin takes a bit to become conditioned to your technique as well. I know that after a winter's b...

"Interesting -- only one mention of CS Lewis, and none of JRR Tolkien -- I enjoy reading and re-reading their books alot." I figured CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien were both well know and widely read among folks here. That's why I referenced Lewis when speaking of MacDonald who is a bit more obs...

On the several times a year that I stop by WalMart I make a habit of entering and checking out through the back door via automotive. I'm not anti-WalMart, just anti-hassle and anti-junk. I did make a scene once when a security guard after watching me check out, eye contact and all, immediately in fr...

George MacDonald for great, original fantasy, very well written. Some of the most beautifully descriptive soul-touching writing ever. C.S. Lewis spoke highly of him. Start with "At the Back of the North Wind" and see if you can get through it without a tear in your eye....... A very intere...

"...The people that went to him were already very wealthy, and it was clear to them that this guy was on the inside (former Nasdaq chairman) and could do things for them. Greed; a lot of A-List celebrities got bitten too. What bothers me about this, of course, is that he pulled it off; how was ...

Insuficient moisture perhaps? Get it re-honed by that barber and let him give you a shave if possible. It's not at all like honing a knife. MUCH lighter touch or it will be made more dull or even damaged. Patience is the most important ingredient in the learning process with the use and maintenance ...

No straight shave until the weekend. That is a great way to proceed. You'll get better results when you're not pressed. That shortens the learning curve considerably. A strop that is wide enough and requires less manipulation of the straight works easier for me than a narrow one that does not allow...

However, I disagree with your second statement above. Rude, self-absorbed people do not live everywhere in the US the way they are concentrated in the New York area.
