I use a scuttle and mostly face lather also. After I have worked up lather on my face, I usually make the first couple of passes on my cheeks. Then I refresh the lather on my neck and under my chin; that keeps the lather warm and makes sure it is still moist. You could refresh after shaving one chee...

The number of shaves is not really the best measure of blade life, because of the different number of passes someone may make for each shave. If I make one WTG, one XTG, and then touch-up, I may get a longer blade life than someone who routinely makes three passes and touches up. I will change blade...

Old Dog, New Trick

I recently traveled to visit daughter and son-in-law, and managed to get away leaving my travel razor and tube of Tabac. Son-in-law is a wetshaver, so I figured I wouldn't have any problem with other supplies. I spotted an aerosol can of green-stripe Barbasol in the bathroom, and he said he used it ...

Looks vicious. I have an open comb R99 that will bite if not handled properly. The head looks similar but the R99 doesn't have the gap behind the teeth.

I had both a wood handle and a resin handle that cracked a couple of years ago. I got one of the small circular clamps used to hold hoses and used that on the brushes. I injected epoxy in the crack then tightened down the clamp (use something to protect the handle) and cleaned off the excess epoxy. ...

I guess you would have to have a wood handle that wasn't sealed with epoxy or something else; the wax wouldn't be able to be absorbed into the wood. Same problem with most wood furniture made since the 1960's; it has been sealed and none of the commercial furniture waxes or other "protection&qu...

Gordon;

Don't have an eBay account, maybe just should offer a big grab-bag of miscellaneous cartridge razors on the selling/trading area for those who have a self-destructive streak.

Gordon has it pegged on this one. I just came back from a week-long trip and had taken a Mach III along as a travel razor. I'm not even sure where I got it but figured I should use it since I had new cartridges for it. First day wasn't too bad, one WTG pass and ATG touch-ups. After three days my fac...

Vinny is correct; the Pinaud Bay Rum really starts a grass fire on your face. Most Bay Rums seem to have some alcohol except for Em's Place Bay Rum aftershave splash. it has oils and aloe, and doesn't sting but has a nice bay rum scent.

Coincidentally, I also got nailed by the pricing police on the other forum, perhaps by the same individual as here, for much the same reason. I got a nastygram from one of the moderators lecturing me about my response to the post in question, and I advised him he could delete my account and any post...

I thought that was the idea; remove excess skin oils so water could be absorbed by the skin and beard. Using a preshave oil seems to do just the opposite, it coats the skin and whiskers preventing them from absorbing moisture from water and lather.

I tried playing around with one of the old English scuttles with the holes in the top of the soap holder. Seems like everytime I got the soap wet and made lather, it would clog the holes beneath the soap and no water would drain out. Maybe I wasn't doing it right, but I could never get it to work li...

The bulb handle is reminiscent of the 2005 SMF brush that was made of wood. That was a really well done brush and still looks and works well.
