Neither Mouchoir de Monsieur nor Jicky smell much like roses to me.
For interesting rose themes you might try Czech and Speake #88 or Penhaligons Hammam Bouquet.

Re: Melting soaps to pour into mug = Feasible?
Gents, I bought a classy jar from classicshaving.com and want to put a couple pucks of Williams mug soap in it. The problem is that the puck slides around to much as it isn't wide enough to accommodate the jar. Is it feasible to melt a couple pucks on the stove and pour them into the jar, and let t...

I have bottles of both. I've never thought of them as similar, but I guess they are. I just put a little Yatagan on my left hand, Eucris on my right. There are some similarities but the Eucris is a more fruity, Yatagan has more of a celery/saltpeter note. I usually prefer Eucris but they're both goo...

Howard, Both the Channel for Men and the Guerlain Vetiver were quite successful too; more so, volumn wise, then Dunhill for Men ever was. Both were altered, and not for the better. And, both were altered shortly after those firms were bought out and absorbed by hugh corporate cosmetics outfits. The...

Interesting. I have little room for comparison as mine is the only bottle of Dunhill I've tried. I think the packaging is around somewhere with a pile of old boxes in the attic. Maybe I'll dig for it and find where it was blended. I wonder what the batch-to-batch variation is. That may even eclipse ...

On a related note, I love the scent of the soap, who wears the cologne? What do you think? I have read a few good things about it. I'm wondering if it is worth picking up a bottle. I love warm winter type scents...even in the summer (it is my way of giving the middle finger to summer as I hate it)....

My daily use razors are an old ivory 7-day set. The original case is in bad shape from many decades of service. http://aolisi.net/images/Razors/SevenDayKit/IG2160-1.jpg My mother-in-law made this cloth holder for me. It works great and is hanging in my bedroom. I've been using it for a few months no...

Sharpclaw, glad that worked out for you. I like the Palmolive and use it a lot, usually by putting a small dab of it on a hard soap and then lathering. The six tubes I got from the guy on e-bay should last at least a decade at the rate I'm using it. It is a good buy. Used in concert with a few cakes...

Quite nice. It is not a multiplicative cooling effect, so my face didn't freeze. They complement each other well.sillyshaver wrote:Hey Howard,
How was the Proraso/Tom's of Maine Mint combo...I've read that Tom's has a similar cooling effect as the Proraso. Must have turned you face into a block of ice.

Another endorsement for the Kiss My Face here. A couple of squirts out of the pump bottle will create a good lather with a brush. Aside from using it by itself you can squirt a small dab of KMF on top of your Williams and then lather up as usual. It doesn't take much, and you'll be pleasantly surpri...

Vern, Don't hesitate to just do the easy parts with the straight for awhile. You will soon pick up skill and learn the contours of your face, and shave just with the straight. Don't rush too much though. It sounds like you have the right idea for under the nose. Just be careful. I have a similar sha...
