Re: flare tip

I have had a similar experience with some Gillettes. That is, even though they appeared mild, there was something about the way they were built (head geometry? I don't know) that made them scrape me. I didn't get the same scraping effect from other razors, especially not the ones that people usually...

Re: milling and moisture

I'm confused now.

Does adding glycerine noticeably decrease the longevity of the finished bar of soap, or not?

Re: modern razors

About the websites that don't work: Some of those small businesses making razors are actually one-man operations or have very minimal staff. It may be that those sites don't get done because there's no one ready to do them.

Re: FYI.....on the www, the One Blade

I've heard it claimed that some razor designs cause faster blade wear than others. I guess there's a possibility that this one is an extreme case in that regard. But if one person has a very light soft beard and another has a heavy coarse beard, it's only reasonable to expect the two people to get a...

Re: DE switch progress almost 4 month update

I'm not sure how literally one of your comments was made. If a blade scrapes you or pulls at your beard, it may be the blade's fault. But if a blade truly slices you, then it was either the fault of the razor-head's design, or a case of "pilot error". :)

Re: ARKO Shave Sticks

I've been away from the discussions for quite some time, but several years ago there was a sort of collective episode where it seemed many on here were trying Arko at the same time. I don't remember any reports of the kind of problem you've described. Maybe Arko has changed its formula, but I sort o...

Re: FYI.....on the www, the One Blade

The blade itself is a known quantity to some of our SE shavers here (I'm thinking of Brian/ShadowsDad, in particular) and I have never read anything to the effect that this particular blade is only good for one shave. In fact, Brian commented on its longer life. We have had the occasional member wh...

Re: FYI.....on the www, the One Blade

New blade for every shave sounds like an excessive recommendation that I would just ignore - unless there's something very strange indeed about the way this razor works, and it sounds as if it isn't that strange.

Ok I will do that but for me it a lot of practice until get it right. That's OK, and hey, you've had a lot of practice already. You know your old brush is too big and floppy, you know you want something that works better on you - that proves you're on the right track. Using a brush is much easier t...

Re: Looking for cream/soap combination shaving brush

When you get a boar brush, it will not feel perfect for the first while, but that's OK. Even on the first day, it's actually much less scratchy than those poor-quality badger brushes that I hope no one is buying. To properly break in your boar brush, here are the instructions: 1. Use it a lot. 8) Th...

Re: Dorco 301t is not great

The straight bar, or the open comb, should not touch your face. The butterfly doors, or the rounded screw-down cap, should be the part touching your face, and the bar (or comb) should float near your skin without touching it. This way, the blade edge is reliably hitting your beard but also staying a...

Re: Looking for mild TTO or three piece safety razor

I agree that if you are looking for a mild razor like your Tech then they are all bad ideas except for the blue tip. I like fairly aggressive razors, and I really disliked the Tech that I tried once - which shows that I mostly like the opposite razors to what you like. I've tried several of the razo...

Re: Dorco 301t is not great

Chris, when you shave, is the rounded top of the head piece touching your skin? It should be. The bar near the blade should not touch your skin, in the same way that when riding your bike you should stay away from the fence - the fence is there just in case, for safety, and you shouldn't be crashing...

Re: Looking for cream/soap combination shaving brush

Nearly all good brushes work fine with both cream and soap. The models to stay away from are the extreme ones - the huge fluffy brush big enough to mop the floor with, and the mini-size that feels like lathering with a toothbrush, as well as any brush with extremely long (floppy) bristles or extreme...

Re: Pre Shave soap

Pre-shave soap is really not necessary when you have a good lather and are shaving after a shower or bath. If you need to shave without starting with a shower or bath, you'll probably find that washing your face before you start lathering is a good idea - but even then, special soap is certainly not...

It does look a lot like a razor. :) That handle has an elegant appearance - I'm not sure what it might feel like in my hand though. Will you be making the entire razor in your own facility, or will parts of it come from another manufacturer? Is there anything in particular about the design of the ra...

Note that it might be "Oxyclean plus [something chemically interesting]" causing those stains. If just Oxyclean by itself was bleaching people's things, it probably wouldn't be as popular as it is.

I'm currently working on cooking chili in the oven which actually works rather well. It would work great - things to check in the oven compared to your other version are how "wet" you make the chili initially, how tightly you cover it (does it need to be tightly covered with foil, just th...

Re: The "science" of shaving?

In its normal state, your beard is a bit like thousands of pieces of dry spaghetti, with their lower ends embedded in a steak. Your job is to trim off the spaghetti ends that are showing, without ruining the steak - and, importantly, without even disturbing the embedded parts of the spaghetti, becau...

I haven't kept track of who's who in anyone's family, but if there's anyone in your house using an acne cream, many of those have compounds in them that will bleach fabrics.
