It's the only readily available shaving cream in Sweden, so it's what I use daily, unless I feel like using my C&E Sandalwood soap. Those two are the only ones I have out.

Of course, it could be that the winning bidder won't pay. I've seen something like that happen at the Swedish eBay site, Tradera. One lot I was bidding on went for a huge sum, but the winning bid was put in by someone who had hijacked an account, apparently. Obviously someone who got a kick out of t...

Not unless you add their sharpening service in the deal (which is $20). If so, it will be honed to shaving sharpness for you before they send the razor to you:

Well, straight razor shaving isn't for everyone. You need to learn a couple of new skills, and spend some time on doing maintenance, and not everyone is interested in doing that, which is understandable. And you also have to learn to shave in a new way, which can seem daunting to some as well. Do wh...

Put in a WTB ad here and/or over at StraightRazorPlace? There are people who sell shave ready vintage straight razors for as little as $35, shipped, even though $40-50 is more common. If you're new to stropping you will want the cheaper beginner strop, because it's almost inevitable that you will ni...

Restoration guide Light

Not trying to compete with any other, more extensive, restoration guides out there, but I wrote a small guide about restoring razors, based on my experiences and what I have learned from the shaving forums. It is published on Lulu.com and is called "Restoring Razors: A Somewhat Useful Guide&quo...

I agree that the Merkur HD is a little unforgiving, but I wouldn't call it "aggressive". It just demands that you have good technique. And I think that's a good thing, because then you have to learn the correct technique in order to get smooth, nick and irritation free shaves. :) I shaved ...

And don't forget the added maintenance of a straight, with honing and stropping. And that you use the same blade for... well... for ever. :) Unless you manage to damage it and have to buy a new one.

Just to re-state the obvious

In case people have forgotten or haven't committed it to memory: You should hold the handle almost horizontally, letting the razor slide on the curved top plate. When you do it correctly, it almost feels like you're not shaving at all, that the blade isn't cutting any hair at all, but when you feel ...

Aggressive != razor burn and nicks

I see people complaining about "aggressive" razors causing razor burn and nicks, and "gentle" razors being better in that regard. To me, however, this tells me the complaining person uses the wrong technique. Don't get me wrong, I'm no guru and don't get perfect shaves every time...

Let's face it (!), it's a commercial site, and they probably earn money from companies selling modern multi-bladed razors and canned goo advertizing on their site. They don't have any commercial interest in reviewing cheaper/better alternatives.

My 2 cents' worth of input. I started with a DE, and then also got into straight razor shaving. Here are my thoughts on it: Getting started with a DE razor is somewhat quicker, "easier" and cheaper than getting started with a straight razor. This is true. You can get a DE, some blades, a b...

So far as the word for the CV, Merriam-Webster says that it's spelled résumé, with resumé as a variant. So I'll stick with the standard spelling, with both e's having accents (as in protégé). By golly, you're absolutely right. I just haven't seen it spelled with two accents before. On the other han...

If the shave was uncomfortable, my bet is that it wasn't shave ready. Most straight razors aren't really shaving sharp "out of the box". You have to have them honed before they are sharp enough to shave with comfortably. My first straight was purchased from a gentleman who had made sure it...
