Has Anyone Upgraded to Mac Mavericks ?

I'm still pretty satisfied with my mid-2010 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard [10.6.8] with Safari as my only browser. But I read that Mavericks is supposed to enhance Safari and extend battery life. Plus it's free! Just checking to see if any members have upgraded to Mavericks, and what the upgrade ...

This is my 4th shave with my new BK4, and the first with soap. What a great brush!

In Praise of the Kent BK4

For years I have used 'stiffer' brushes, e.g. a Plisson #12 (European White) and a Chubby 1. I could never get them to work using 'paintbrush' strokes. I always had to use rotary action. A recent--and mild--allergic reaction to some medication suddenly made these brushes feel uncomfortable against m...

Re: Le Tour 21013

I was very impressed with the TV coverage of this year's Tour, especially Stage 21 in Paris. Some of the best video of Paris I ever hope to see. And the post-race light show on the Arc de Triomphe was spectacular.

I also use my wife's mirror, which is an extendable shaving mirror to my eyes. I use the magnified side and it really helps me get *everything* off my chin.

OK, Kennedy/Nixon shaving, as I remember it. I was obsessed with shaving at the time of the 1960 debates, and I haven't been the same since 11.22.63, if truth be told. It was put about that Kennedy wore no makeup during the debate, because he'd been relaxing and working on his tan. Nixon had suffere...

Nice one. The tweed pattern really makes it. My Kangols are more like solid flannel, almost like a beret. I wore it once to work, reversed, and asked a female co-worker her opinion. "Nice" she said. Then I changed it to the normal position and she said: "Grandpa in the house!" Un...

PS--Would like to see a photo of your new cap in action. I have two Kangols, one navy and one camel.

I've had good luck with Peets Major Dickason's blend.

Here's a trick that will reduce any metallic taste you may notice in the moka brew: preheat the water before you fill up the moka pot--almost to boiling.

Cheers,

The only feasible way I could imagine it happening would be if it was laying on its side and it had a very slow seeping leak, so that each drop had time to evaporate as it crept out in a very slow process. This is the most likely explanation, by far. The bottle was in its box, stored horizontally i...

Evaporating Guerlain Vetiver

About a year ago I bought a new 50ml bottle of Guerlain Vetiver EDT. I used it a little bit and when I went back to it a month ago, the bottle was completely empty. Basically it all evaporated. [/b] It has the spray cap: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8510/8481669357_49d6bc5180_z.jpg The cap was on t...

I live in a Boston suburb. 5th worst snowstorm in Boston history. Bought a snowblower a couple years ago and today was the first time I needed it. Sure glad I had it.

Leica M-E

Interesting article here about the £3,900 Leica M-E, written by a professional photographer for the Guardian. Here is an excerpt: "My everyday Japanese DSLR is the camera equivalent of a people carrier: it does what it is supposed to do, but it is not an object of beauty. The Leica feels and lo...

I've been trying to use up creams and have the Nomad (tube) in frequent rotation. I had forgotten how thick and creamy it is. I like its metal tubing better than the plastic in some other brands. C&E is one of the few easy-to-find brick and mortar stores around here. They also sell through other...

I got the $100 JBL Flip Portable Bluetooth speaker as a Christmas present for my son. The size is compellingly small and it gets good reviews. He'll be using it mostly with his MacBook Pro.

Personally, I subscribe to the theory that a FWD vehicle with decent M+S (i.e., 'Mud and Snow' or 'All Season') tires is all you need for driving on plowed streets. But New England is not Quebec. It also helps to know how to drive in adverse conditions, i.e. slow down and don't play with your smartp...

For Canadian Members Especially: Winter Tires?

According to a link on La Presse, winter tires appear to be obligatory in Quebec. Is this the case in other provinces as well? I've lived in Massachusetts since 1970, and I had snow tires for the rear wheels in those pre-radial, rear-wheel-drive days (they were a pain to store in my apartment!). I d...

Is this the same as the Speick shave stick? I just used the Speick stick this morning for the first time and found it lathered nicely.
