Hi Tom I see that you mentioned that you own a Spyderco UF aka ultrafine. The stone is very fine much finer than 2000 grit and so is the Fine that is just under it. So its quite capable of keeping a razor shave ready. Do a forum search and you will find several post about it. I personally use it as ...

I think straight razor shaves are closer at least for me. i get a bbs shave in areas like my chin and along my jaw line that where not possible with a DE.

I think part of it is due to the better feedback i get from the straight razor thus allowing me to get a better shave.

Hi Mat

I ended up taking the blade back down to 6k and worked my way back up i did do an arm shave test and it seems to be a bit sharper. Then again the best way to test it is to shave, i will do so later this evening.

Newbie with a few questions

Hi I have been wetshaving for close to 5 years , and i have owned straight razors for almost as long. I gave up on the straights but since Dec i have come back and i have gotten several new hones. Hi Josh, +1 a feather is the Sharpness standard of the DE world. I think what what you might be after is simply a more agressive razor. However if you get a more aggressive razor and you still doesn't get you the closeness you are after try changing your technique. Have you tried skin stretching or ...

I also use the ted pella blades and i had the same problem described by most here . I also made the observation that i could not insert the key fully into the razor. The key in the blade magazine has to be fully inserted into the razor to inject the blade with ease my solution was to lube the key of...

Clay Shaving under the nose should not be a problem, the rolls has rounded edges and should not be a problem under the nose. The way I shave under the nose is with an oblique pass with the grain from the cheeks to the lips, the second pass is obliquely against the grain from the corner of my mouth t...

Clay I am happy that you where able to find a solution to the problem. As for the 30 seconds of stropping in the manual is more of a minimum than anything else. At times I strop my blade for a minute or 2, and when I want to hone the blade I give it 10 to 15 passes on the hone, strop it and then tes...

Ancient New Yorkese . Take a clean toilet paper or paper towel roll and put the brush inside. note make sure the brush is dry before doing this. If you do this after a day or so the brush will un-bloom so it sort of works like hat hair for brushes lol. :P i personally don't like doing this because i...

Clay i am happy to see that you are still shaving with your rolls.
And that you used the mink oil on your strop to bring it back to life.

But do you have a second blade for your rolls? so that you can use an alternate blade daily.

May your rolls razor stay sharp as the day is long.

Use shampoo and glycine.

Sometimes the bristles might be oily or a bit dirty
and when they are oily they don't hold as much water
as they do when they are clean. Once you clean your brush
it will hold more water, and preform like a champ from the start.
