I've been using a Chubby3 in Best for several years now, and with regular use it softened wonderfully and is everything I could hope for in a brush.

I hope you enjoy yours for many happy years!

I've used both, and I can tell you that the Proraso is more effective as a pre-shave (IMHO) and has moisturizing properties that you don't often hear about. I like the Trumper SF, but I think it works better after shaving. The only reason not to choose the Proraso would be if its cooling is too aggr...

As to the question about longevity of Penhaligon's English Fern, I have been using a puck of it every day but six since last Sept. 30, and I'm pretty sure I'm good until the end of the year.

Sensational lather and fragrance, completely worth the price.

I have a CH3 in Best and a SMF1, and while the SMF is softer, the Simpson's is much more satisfying to me.

I build the lather on my face when using soap, in a bowl when using cream.

can i predict what is likely to be best for me (DE, str8, AC) or, gulp, do i just have to try them all for myself? I think you're going to have to try them. And if you're like most of us, you won't have to gulp (except maybe for what you're spending) because it'll be fun. Not that I'm an expert, bu...

Gordon, I'm just a sucker for a challenge and perhaps lacking in a full complement of common sense.

But I'm enjoying myself and learning a little something and very grateful for all the good advice and fellowship on SMF.

My best,

Back to the Feather!

Emboldened by the purchase of what for most men would be a lifetime's supply of My Nick Is Sealed, I have picked up the Feather Artist Club again. As no one will remember, I had a brief and bloody flirtation with it last year, retreating to the Merkur HD after on several days getting nearly enough b...

FT: Harris Arlington EDT

Will trade a bottle of D.R. Harris Arlington EDT that's just a few drops shy of a full 3.4 oz. for a smaller amount of Penhaligon English Fern or Trumper Wild Fern.

John,

I have a Simpson Chubby 2 in best badger that I find perfect for hard soaps. After a little break-in period it remains very firm without being overly stiff.

Best,

On a similar topic, I have been thinking about DR Harris lavender or Arlington shave soap in the mahogany bowl. It's beautiful, but I wonder how the bowls hold up over time.

Are they that heavily lacquered that they don't turn ugly in a year or so?

Tony, it's the EDT spray. If I'd tried to use it as an aftershave I'd be dead! :) [/code]

I bought a one-ounce bottle of Knize 10 and I must say it's not for me. My wife liked it on me but even the smallest amount -- walking through the mist, really -- tightened up my throat and made my nose run all day. My impression of the scent is unfortunately too colored by my physical reaction to i...

The folks at Trumper sent me a nice e-mail to say that they have not reformulated, but have only changed the list of ingredients to comply with new laws that require them to include anything that could be an allergen. Presumably this means they've had this stuff in the cream all along. They offered ...

I just received a tub of Trumper's violet yesterday and can tell you I was very disappointed this morning. There was practically no scent at all, and certainly nothing like the Rose with which I had spoiled myself just a few months ago. It lathered as well as Trumper creams always do, but the scent ...
