Re: What's today's soap or cream?

Hiya,

Today the old Coates lime cream called to me and it was a smart choice. Nice performer with a mild pleasant single note going on. Heh, used the rose version a few days ago and that's always fun.

Very good bang for the buck kinda thing.

Re: Q.E.D. Shave soap selection???

I am another one bummed that Q.E.D. s. soap is no more. They had been sold since about 1982. I had asked for some of his scents to be offered in tubs, such as the Mocha Java. The Rose Geranium, Fresh Lime and Wild Rose were also top tier products. You might check out these as a replacement option. ...

Re: Gillette Super Adjustable short handle razor

Hiya,

The short handle Super gives me pretty much the same good shave as a Slim, but I much prefer how the Super feels in my hand. I believe both have about the same handle length and weight, and maybe the Super is a little more head heavy. It also looks better than a Slim to me.

Re: a perfect blade

Is there a perfect blade out there ? I have been DE wetshaving for about 10 years now, and i have yet to find a blade I really like. I have been thru several blade samplers and no luck. Any suggestions on what to try next ? BTW, my razor is a Murker HD. I have only tried one other razor, the Merkur...

Re: J Peterman 1903 cream

Hope you get what you want. Chris Me too. I guess I can always PIF it away if I don't like it. 8) This has been in the rotation for at least five years and I'm pretty sure the scent has been fairly consistent. I think you just got a rogue tub and will enjoy what you receive. I've talked to people t...

Re: J Peterman 1903 cream

Hiya, This is a real nice US made cream. Very good performance with a classy scent. Been using this for years and is one of the few creams in my rotation. Heh, I already picked up a bit extra for the arsenal. It's a large 7 ounce tub and full retail ($28) still isn't outta line but at the sale price...

Re: How long has it been since you bought new soap or cream?

Hiya, One thing I don't need is more soaps/creams, but then need sometimes doesn't enter into buying decisions. Like this one. Couple days ago a Limey buddy and I split two tubs of the scented Xpec.....probably the last two in the world and all the seller had in stock. I am hoping to receive it from...

Re: XPEC Shaving Cream

[quote="brothers"]Martin, I had a full unopened tub of Domenico Caracini 1913, still in plastic, and I decided to go ahead and sell it because I thought I could always get more later. Right! They went out of business. Ok, that's pretty bad. Never tried that stuff but saw wonderful things w...

Re: XPEC Shaving Cream

Hiya, Pretty amazing how fast the stuff went extinct. I remember maybe six weeks ago thinking about ordering a few tubs in case it went away, but held off. Woulda hated to spend the cash but when something ain't gonna be around anymore then that's different. Sigh, when I'd looked at the time, there ...

Re: scored a #58

Hiya, Like the OP, my curiosity about the #58 was mainly due to Gordon and his love affair with this razor. He is a picky old geezer, and he knows a lot about shaving crap. Good combo for a reviewer. Got mine a while back in a trade with a UK forum member. Worked out well for both of us, and what he...

Re: Nice brush from Marshall Fields

Hiya,

According to Gary Young, the Fields brush is a Simpson made for the US market. Mine's still in the rotation and has been used many hundreds of times by now. The darn thing still performs well, and never sheds a single hair.

That was a nice acquisition by the other member.

Hiya, If I was looking for a single note lime soap, I would order from JoAnna at The Shave Den. Definitely one of the better small vendor soaps as far as performance goes, and the lime scent is subtle but true and free of other notes. She also does a good bay rum version, using the Pimenta Racemosa ...

Re: Gillette Adjustable Question

Hi there to all, I had two Gillette Adjustable used in the family from my grandfather and father to me. One is Fatboy and the Other one is Slim, but on both I have noticed that one side is different than the other side. One side is more aggressive than the other side. It doesn't make much differenc...

I see that I have been here for 6 years now, which amazes me. I have joined other forums along the way, and I enjoy them also, but SMF remains my shaving mainstay, the place I am most comfortable. I have stepped back a bit in recent years, but I am still glad to be a part of this community. - Murra...

Re: Hats for the little guys

Can anyone recommend a reputable retailer that sells quality hats that wouldn't look ridiculous on a short guy? I really like the look of Tilleys but I'm afraid the brims would end up being too wide. Hi there, This place has a LOT of hats, having visited the store a few times in the past. They also...

You really should peek in there sometime. If you like the British sense of humor, it can be a fun place. Not that SMF isn't a laugh riot........

Re: Castle Forbes Limes

For best results with the Castle Forbes all I do is run less than 1 teaspoon of very warm tap water on top of the cream (very stiff cream). Then I load the barely moist badger brush on the cream for around 10 to 15 seconds. ) I found it lathers best with a small amount of cream in a bowl with 1-2 t...
