Re: Taylor Old Bond Street Avocado Cream gone hard.

A few years back I even dried out some creams in a film drier just to turn them into soaps (I see the photos have gone as Vince nuked the gallery). Just curiosity, and they still worked fine. Re: A Blast From The Past

At one time I prided myself on owning at least one tub or one puck of every shaving cream or soap from the official (non-artisanal/homemade) market. I've given away a lot, but still have most of it. Including the entire remaining world supply of Vinolia, original Woods of Windsor soap and the glorio...

Re: News about Straight Razor Place forum

A little more research shows that discussion of this matter at SRP is now strictly verboten, so presumably there is some embarrassment involved. Rumour has it that a person called Luke Webster has recently emerged in Mordor and may be behind the domain name snatch. https://www.reddit.com/r/Wetshavin...

Re: Home Page and Gallery

I think I nuked my photos in the gallery when it began to malfunction. If the images there are still showing up in old posts you could make a case for keeping them, but if they aren't displaying then I'd say trash the lot.

Re: News about Straight Razor Place forum

I assume they forgot to renew the registration of sraightrazorplace.com, and someone swooped in and snapped it up. At that point it either become the best URL a Pakistani straight razor company could wish for, or it is offered back to the original owners for a large fee. I can see why they thought a...

Re: Home Page and Gallery

No one has been able to post an image to their gallery since the previous forum update. That particular add-on would no longer work and could not be made to work. I daresay Vince could find and plug in an alternative, but it would be a few days work to get it all working smoothly, and then it would ...

Sorry about that, chaps. Vince upgraded our version of phpBB last night and the captcha was changed to one bots can read. I have been through 22 new accounts so far this morning, and I thought that one was real as the IP claimed to be gorillaservers.net in Los Angeles. Evidently not, and the other n...

A Blast From The Past

Here's a laugh for you - I have so many pots of cream stashed away I don't even remember that some of them existed. Like Little Jack Horner I went into the corner where the Drawers of Shame live and stuck in my thumb (along with some fingers), and pulled out a dark blue pot that said Charles Tyrwhit...

Re: What are you reading?

Since I last wrote, I have worked my down some of the stack in the photo . Gulag Archipelago, Raj Quartet (and Staying On, it's fifth part), Nick Cohen's "You Can't Read This Book" which is about censorship, Dawkin's Brief Candle in the Dark, Charles Murray's In Our Hands about universal basic incom...

Re: Lung ailments - post-tobacco - causes thereof

No one can say for sure that vaping is safe or not as yet (especially given that the products are almost always made in China where respect for manufacturing standards and product purity are not foremost). However, it is pretty much certain to be safer than tobacco smoking, so in the interests of ha...

Re: The “Razor and Blades” Business Model

I get so angry every time I use an inkjet printer. Generally it starts by telling me I must replace cartridges that are new, then it runs a few cleaning cycles to waste some ink. With some paper misfeeds, and some user errors in finding all the settings to get the layout as desired I end up using ab...

Re: For Marmite lovers only

I believe Marmite is less strongly flavoured than it used to be, a change that occurred when the recipe was changed to make it less sticky and more easily spread. I suppose that could be my taste buds aging too. And talking of Marmite-flavoured nibbles, do try to buy Twiglets. They probably have mad...

Film Photography 2017

It's been some time since I irritated you with my snaps. I'm still dedicated to film in 35mm, 120, 4x5 and 10x8 formats. I shan't annoy you all with many examples, but I hope a few of them will please. I have made motorised versions of a pair of 1950's=era Agfa developing tanks that I use now for B&...

Welcome. I like Dominica Bay Rum too, especially the Lime, so the bottles I have are staying in my stash. We have all got to the point where we say we don't have much to offer, not because we know nothing, but by now our knowledge has spread fairly evenly over the membership. We do offer an environm...
