Re: What do you want for Christmas?

Yes, welcome, Sam. I hope your sig does not mean you are going to spam us with real estate! I do like that bit of coast between Malaga and Gibraltar: my in-laws had a house in Aldea Beach and a good friend lives in Sotogrande.

Re: Open razors - the chosen few

A straight razor won't harm anyone unless they are clumsy with it. And if there are small children in the house it can be kept on a high shelf. I sometimes wonder if there was a rumour started by Gillette that any house with small children in it ought not contain a straight razor. No one even though...

Re: I'm Back

I used to joke that the corruption of youth is one of the few remaining pleasures of old age. And in that vein, don't you think it's time to learn how to use a straight razor?

You're welcome. I have never read so much medical misinformation online as I have about vaccines since 2019. And for those convinced that mRNA vaccines cause a multitude of ills, I give you the case of the German man who had 217 covid vaccines over a 27 month period (about one every four days): http...

Re: Green tea

Welcome, Jim, I think - an argumentative start to your life here! Tastes mature as people do, and there are many tastes that older tongues delight in yet seem repulsive to youngsters. Green tea and dark chocolate are good examples. There is also the issue of a genetic oversensitivity to sourness: th...

Re: Simple Poem to make me smile

I think nursery rhymes are not part of modern culture at all. Kids probably never hear them and certainly aren't taught them. That one has several possible explanations, of which I choose to think the astronomical one is best. Constellations Leo (cat), Lyra (fiddle), Taurus (cow), Canis Minor (littl...

Re: Review of the "new" Mitchell's Woolfat

Curious thought: rendered pork fat = lard rendered beef fat = tallow rendered mutton fat = ? Lanolin is obtained from sheep's wool, and cannot substitute for tallow or lard: it does not saponify to form a soap, but rather remains in the soap unaltered as a lubricant. Fat lambs certainly exist (see H...

Re: inherited some Shaving Brushes. Looking for info

There are obsessive collectors, but even more important is using them! The sheer delight of whipping up some warm gorgeously scented lather, applying it with a good brush, and enjoying a close shave is a treat that far too many men have either forgotten or never experienced. It leaves your face refr...

Re: inherited some Shaving Brushes. Looking for info

Next set: a Plisson and two Rooneys. All excellent brushes. You have the start of a good collection! Far too good to sell, in my view. If you are a wetshaver, you are all set. If not, stick around and learn how!
