Re: Need help!

Hello Southbound. Welcome to SMF! I'm not a straight razor shaver myself, so I can't offer you the advice you seek. This topic would be much more readily noticed in the Straight Razors forum, so I could transfer this thread there, if you like. Either way, I will put an alert to this thread in that f...

Re: Joke of the Day

Russ, in the Portuguese Salazar joke, the letter was written to God, but directed to Salazar by the postal service. Salazar, pleased to be addressed as God, compensated the writer with a payment, but not as much as requested. Then he signed the reply letter with his own name. A second letter from th...

Re: Semogue Caravela Mistura in Taj Resin

I totally understand that it has a functional purpose, and some like how it looks. But look at this ... 8wZlMGw.jpg You've got me here. I've never seen such a brush. It's more bulb-shaped than my Semogue badgers and I've never seen such a handle on a Semogue brush, metal cup/ring or not. Sometimes ...

Re: Semogue Caravela Mistura in Taj Resin

The metal cups make sense especially in the case of wooden handles.

Since I've become accustomed to the ring/cup on Semogue brushes, other brands look "unfinished." 8)

They look lovely, other than those hideous rings ... :)
Welcome to SMF, lloydrm!

(I think the ring at the base of the knot on Semogue brushes bespeaks superior finish and adds a touch of class. Opinions are obviously divided on this matter.)

Re: Joke of the Day

A letter written in a childish scrawl came to the post office addressed to "God". A postal employee, not knowing exactly what to do with the letter, opened it and read: "Dear God, my name is Jimmy. I am 6 years old. My father is dead, and my Mom is having a hard time raising me and my sister. Would...

Re: Music

I still like the idea of listening to the radio.

I usually have the radio on, tuned to a local station, while I shower. During a shave, I want to hear the action of the razor cutting whiskers, so no music then.

Re: New Gillette Razor - guess how many blades?

Paul, it would seem that Gillette had to find another direction to pursue other than more blades. This does look like some good thought and engineering went into it.

Thanks! I'll read that tonight. ***** Thoughts To Ponder How do "please keep off the grass" signs get there? Who shuts the door when the bus driver gets off? If there's an exception to every rule, is there an exception to that rule? They say the truth will set you free. But then why is it that ever...

Chris, we had a large bottle of this at our house when I was a child and I used it at that time. :)

I'm surprised that you can still get it.

Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor

Hi Tim - If you're going to drop you razor, I would recommend you stick with stainless steel. 8) Beyond that, the Rockwell and the Mergress are my favorite razors. I use the Mergress at its lowest setting, which is both mild and efficient. I use the Rockwell on plate 2, which is also both mild and e...

Re: Semogue Caravela Mistura in Taj Resin

Hi Tim - I've never found this combination attractive in concept. I have badger brushes that I like and boar brushes that I tend to like even more, but I have preferred to keep them separate. I will note that the only badger and boar brushes that I really like are Semogues, so I look forward to your...
