Re: First razor for young son?

Strangely enough, I learned to shave with a Schick Type L. Not sure how I did it, as I find it too aggressive for me now.

I agree that the M-Adjustable would be good, at lowest setting.

Re: A Strange Event

Chris, between this and a recent post of yours on the Straight Razors forum, it sounds like more "Trouble at T'Mill." I had hoped things wouldn't develop so fast and I am saddened by the news lightly veiled in your posts. I still hope for a positive turn of events and I wish you, Pippa, and your son...

Re: How's Everybody Doing?

Hi Jim! It's always good to see one of our old friends. I remember you, indeed. Though I still have more shaving equipment and supplies than I know what to do with, I stick to a small number of tools/supplies and I don't mix it up much anymore. I know now what works for me. The lack of excitement ov...

That looks really good, Gary. Nice work!

It's always refreshing to see an old handle recycled rather than indecorously pitched into the trash. You've done quite a few such projects, so good on you!

That is impressive - the largest steam engine I have ever seen, Jack!

What do you mean by "converted to fuel oil fire"?

It looks like it's still producing steam, rather than a diesel conversion. Does it use a petroleum-based fuel to fire the boiler rather than coal?

Re: Fountain Pens

I am officially done collecting fountain pens now that I have found my holy grail. My grandfather carried a tan colored Parker 51 on 27 missions in a B-29 bomber in WWII. He carried it until he died, and I have it safely stored away because I am afraid of losing it. Well, I found the same pen, neve...

Re: Fountain Pens

I used hand-me-down fountain pens from an early age, later buying nice ones when I was able. The writing experience varies greatly from one fountain pen to the next, so certain pens work especially well for me and some less so. They are truly lovely instruments and I still have my eye on some new fo...

Re: Razor recommendations for shaving your head?

Welcome to SMF, X14Halo! I'm not a head-shaver, myself, but I think Clive (fallingwickets) uses a Gillette Fusion. Some have actually used DE (double-edge) razors for this purpose, but it involves more risk and requires more skill. Paul's recommendations sound good to me, for the reasons he provides...

Re: NEW: Martin de Candre Shaving Soap in Wooden Bowl

Clive, people seem to either love or hate the scent. It's as though it were a matter of a gene being turned on or off, controlling the response of the olfactory.

Re: NEW: Martin de Candre Shaving Soap in Wooden Bowl

I really like the glass containers much better. I'm curious about some of the new scents offered, but I'm not willing to pay the high price to find out. The original MdC soap smelled terrible to me. (I think Phil at Bullgoose Shaving likened it to the smell of roofing tar. 8) ) When they offered an ...

Re: Home Roasting Coffee Beans

(She also taught me how to wash clothes by hand.) - Murray Oh yeah, coffee! Coffee was usually purchased there half-roasted, as it stored well in that form. One then roasted it in a bin over a fire to taste, boiled it, and served it with copious amounts of sugar. I gave up on trying to get it unswe...
