Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor

I like three-piece razors because they are easy to disassemble and clean after a shave. Not so much the case with TTO and two-piece razors are a little more awkward, too. With the Rockwell, you get both a three-piece razor and you get a true adjustable: the best of both worlds. (I consider the Merku...

I certainly think Tim deserves a title. "SMF Soapmaster" would be a good one.

Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor

Tim, if you are considering the aluminum version of the General, you might also consider the chrome version of the Rockwell (6C). It is half the price and the functional equal of the stainless steel version (6S) and I would judge the finish to be on par with the Edwin Jagger. I'm sometimes tempted t...

Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor

I still experienced the infamous "skin-thinning" attributed to Feather blades. For this reason, I have held off on the purchase of a General. - Murray Murray- I am with you on this. I have Feather DE blades that I doubt will every get used up - Sharp but way too harsh. That said, I do not experienc...

Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor

Roger, if the 34C is a Merkur with a fixed head, I believe the Edwin Jagger is a tiny bit milder. I'm intrigued by the General, but I'm wary of the blades. I require a mild razor (Mergress on lowest setting; Rockwell on 2) and a sharp blade (but not Feather-sharp). I see people here saying that the ...

Re: Cannibidiol CBD - what's up with this stuff?

Large scale studies of cannabis would be helpful to determine if there are true medical benefits to be derived from the substance and to better define the dangers of its misuse. I believe the Israeli government is studying it, and other countries may be doing so, as well, but it's not happening here...

Re: Cannibidiol CBD - what's up with this stuff?

Gary, building on what Brian said, CBD is the component of hemp/marijuana that is showing an ability to combat seizure disorders and (I believe) pain. I understand they are also making topical creams with CBD for joint and muscle pain. Like Brian, I have no experience of my own with this. I can only...

Re: "That Lather"

Tim, just to be absolutely clear, no venom was directed at you. I have issues with certain products.

And while I'm on a roll, I have always seen creams as the the shaving equivalent of mechanical soft food in hospitals. :P

Re: "That Lather"

From my point of view, which I hold in high regard, I rather liked Institut Karité when I used it. I found other soaps that I liked better, so I moved on. Martin de Candre performed well but the scent made me want to urp. English soaps are poisonously fragranced with wanton disregard for the welfare...

My memory is a little foggy in these matters, too, Paul.

Was there a Sheraton that was like a later Aristocrat, but with an open comb?

Thanks for the review and recommendation, Bill.

I like that this soapmaker uses essential oils, and the Citrus Island version sounds especially good to me.

Re: Face lathering and brush loading (soap)

I've been in the habit of loading the brush on the soap for 15 to 20 seconds, then building the lather on the face. I think I'll change it up a bit: I'm going to follow Murray's practice of building his lather on the soap. This means the time spent will be determined by my subjective satisfaction w...

Interestingly, though I'm sensitive to most fragrances, I got along fine with the old T&H Luxury Soap.
