I would guess that the majority of members here clean their razors (at least superficially) after each blade change. That frequency seems to be around five or so shaves. As far as the two sides, I use one until it is full of lather rotate 180 degrees and repeat, then rinse. Normally I can shave half...

Old Spice was one of the first colognes I used and it was beacuse of my grandfather... my dad never smelled like a yancy boy. I am a little upset that the clipper ship on the bottle has been replaced with that abomination of a sailboat. I do, however, have a bottle of talc from the '30's that is unu...

He may not read this since he has given up alcohol, but Tony can tell you how to make a martini.

Dominic, I am certain that he, or rather, Ian is to blame.

Bertie, I remember an episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye ordered a martini so dry " it should have dust on the olive."

Very nice Phil. It has been awhile since I've seen North by Northwest (and well before I joined SMF) and I forgot about this scene. Thanks for posting.

Yes, well said Steve. I was a winner of her first giveaway and I feel a bit guilty that I haven't bought anything since I received her Aspect cologne. It's only because I have resolved to finish off products before I buy any more. I get many compliments on the Savory Rose and Aspect colognes. Thank ...

Ben, it's been said before, but that's a fine looking razor. The clean top, without a visible center bar, is hot . (I hope it's forgivable to refer to another man's razor as a hottie.) --Glenn Glenn, not only is it forgivable it's expected here. I have a razor with (as far as I can tell) the same h...

Scott, when I finally got rally great lather it was with far more lather than I ever though I would need. It really takes quite a bit of water to make lather unusable. I also didn't get really good lather until I (re)started lathering on my face. There is a moment when the lather all of a sudden bec...

Doleeco, do you have any OxiClean? I use this and very hot water on all my razors that cannot be boiled. I don't think more oil is going to work. You could also try vinegar and a little baking soda for awhile (my last resort) or a gentle simmer. I normally wouldn't recommend boiling water for this, ...

Mmm...good catch Paul. I believe you are right it is the latter version of the Knack. This one does not have the metal on the end and 'grooves' rather than 'ribs'. Sorry Pinchy. This is why we have people like Paul around.

Ben, I think that the scent of the skin foods is present merely so that they smell of something other than their component parts (which isn't much). And so that it doesn't interfere with cologne application. I use coral skin food during the winter months and the scent dissipates before I remove the ...

Many days I can get away with a single WTG pass and a little touch up, especially if I am using a Gem razor. It doesn't work quite a well with a DE, but I am still shaved better than most men I see throughout the day.

Welcome aboard AFG. Jack is right on about them being Trac II style razors. I never used those handles, but I do have a Trac II and it is the only cartridge razor I can use. Though, after a few days I start to get razor bumps. Stick with the DE for a while and see if it gets better, or don't. We hav...

Perhaps the manufacturer thought they were be helpful by making sure you don't get malaria. Though, I agree that quinine should be mixed with gin and almost never with tea.

Ben, didn't I see that you used ethanol in a SOTD post? Do you use it on your blades or face or is it prescribed internally? I think I am too lazy to do a post shave blade condition regiment. That and the fact that I have over 14 years of blades makes this prospect less than enticing. -- Jeremy

It is a Gillette Knack, and thought I never used one, you should get a good shave from it. Some gents like it because of the longer handle, though it is not held in the same regard as a 40's SS.

My guess is that the advertising for this new shaving system was more the a mere mortal could handle and promptly put their DE's in attics and drawers until we could snap them up some fifty years later.

That is what I'm hypothesizing anyway.
