I bought the T&H luxury shave soap. I've always used the creams before. I am not sure why I decided to change. Just seemed like a neat thing to try. I'll probably switch back and forth. It's fun to try new things out. Distilled water? How do you go about warming it up? Do you rinse the razor and...

Thanks everyone. It's nice to be back in the community. I got my Truefitt and Hill soap in yesterday. I seem to get a good lather the first time around. But pass 2, the lather seems to dissipate. I'm wondering if it's hard water.

Born again

I tried wet shaving back in 2007. I bought Truefitt & Hill cream, a Merkur HD, a Merkur slant, a 100 pack of israeli personna blades, a badger brush, preshave oil. The whole nine yards.... I was totally into it. The problem was that my technique wasn't good. I couldn't get a tight shave, and I k...

Thanks guys... It's hard to throw the towel in on the whole DE thing. I did feel like my dad and grandfather while shaving. It was kind of cool. The honeymoon was nice. We can't wait to get back to the islands. Truly, paradise. I'll keep you all updated. I'm still not getting ultra smooth shaves. Th...

Hey fellas, Sorry it took so long to get back. Got married, honeymooned in Maui, came back and was on call all weekend long at the hospital. Ugh.. Anyway, I am going back to the Mach 3 because I have to get up at 4:30-5am every day. I can get 2-3 passes with the Mach 3 so much faster than I could wi...

I think I'm going back

For the past couple of months, I've been using either a Merkur HD or slant with israeli persona blades. In general I like the shave, but it takes so much longer than with the old Mach 3. So, I decided to try the Mach 3 using the techniques I've learned with DE shaving. Beard reduction, no pressure, ...

Columbus, OH barber shop for shave

Hi all, Getting married this weekend in Columbus, OH. Would like to get a str8 shave prior to it. Never had one before, and not sure if I should necessarily experiment on such an important day. But, if anyone has a good recommendation for a place to get a str8 shave in Columbus, would appreciate it....

I agree, lather is important

Certainly getting a good lather is an important aspect of the shave. No doubt there. I think when I first started I thought it was all about the lather. I would spend a long time getting that perfect lather whipped up, but still, once I got to my neck, yowsers! It didn't matter Eventually, I just de...

My epiphany

Hey all, I've been shaving with the merkur HD for awhile (2 months or so). I've found a few things along the way that may help out other newbies. For razors, I've only used the HD. It seems like a well rounded razor and I'm getting better at its technique. Blades - tried merkur, feather, and personn...

Thank you all for your such quick replies. One thing that I have been doing is running the water to rinse my blade. Do most people just rinse the blade in a pool of warm water? This seems like a way to avoid getting water into the mug with the lather. I do like the scuttle idea, but I might have to ...

Cold lather question from newbie

Hi guys, I have really been getting into the wet shaving experience over the past couple of weeks. My fiance bought me an intro badger brush, a mug, and some c&e sandalwood cream. I'm still using the mach 3, but my merkur HD is on the way with some Merkur and feather blades. So far my shaves hav...
