Re: Speick Soap Stick
I guess Speick is a love it or hate product, I absolutely love the smell and the shaving stick, it's my favourite shaving stick bar none.

Re: Mitchell's Wool Fat
I now make my own Woolfat shaving sticks, it's very easy to do, I just use a cheese grater (smallest grating section) and then pack it down into an empty D R Harris shaving stick container using the back of a bread and butter knife. When you screw the base of the stick it comes out just like any oth...

Re: Agressive razors?
I agree that the Tech is an overlooked razor. Some razors, though, do seem more aggressive to me, so I guess it's just another case of opinions varying on everything :) I think the GEM Micromatic Open-Comb single edge razor is one of the more aggressive razors, but used as it's shown here: https://...

Re: Who still regularly uses 3Ts / DRH / Pens soap/cream
I'm a shaving stick man myself and I don't think you can beat D R Harris shaving sticks for scent or performance, but I prefer tallow products anyway. I even make my own Woolfat shaving sticks, which work superbly. I do use T & H creams sometimes, as far as creams go they're pretty damn good.

Re: Agressive razors?
Personally I believe there's a lot of fluff and nonsense spoken about "aggressive" and mild razors. I have a tough beard and sensitive skin, the worst combination. I've tried many razors and "aggressive" razors don't give me closer shaves, in fact the Gillette Tech gives me the c...

Not anymore...
A few more years down the road, a bit older and wiser, no need to do it anymore, just shower, shave and I'm done, I've learned less is more for your skin.

Re: Tech love...
The most aggressive of all the Tech models is the Canadian pre-war 'fat handle' as it has a larger blade gap. Of course, it's still mild for most people, but IMO it's the most efficient Tech model of all. I like mine even better than the lauded English 'flat bottom' Tech. Aggressive razors just don...

Re: Tech love...
I just finished a BBS with my 67 British Sportman Tech. Used a Voshkod - very smooth. I have 3 other Tech's; 54, 59 and NDC that I plan on passing down to my son and grandsons (in about 10-20 years) when they have time. I find with the Techs' I need to work alittle harder to get a BBS, but hey, I n...

Well some complain about it being tricky to use, I don't find that to be the case if you have a decent badger brush.

Re: Tech love...
I'm a fan of the Tech, myself. I used a gold, thick-handled Tech almost exclusively for three years. Out of admiration for this particular Gillette design, I have picked up a few different ones for the "collection." - Murray I've gone for the silver thick handled version, it looks quite n...

I've just done the very same thing myself so you're not alone, acquisition syndrome has already set in for me but I'm loving it anyway, welcome back.

Re: Does more aggressive equal a closer shave?
But seriously folks . . . Today I shaved with my 1970 black-handled Super Adjustable set at "1" with a fresh (day #1) Personna Hospital Use blade. With a single lathering, and one-pass plus touchups and blade-buffs, I would say I got an almost perfectly close shave. Like 9.8/10 or somethi...

I converted a noob to the Woolfat...
I told a friend of mine to try the fat, he's bought some and loves it. He won't be on here, he's not an internety kind of guy, but I feel I have redeemed myself somewhat from years of electric shaving in the wilderness. He's struggling a bit with the Feathers so I've recommended he try some Derby's,...

Re: Absolutely not IMHO...
. . . I think it's a fallacy that cranking up adjustables gets you a better shave, at least it doesn't work that way for me anyway. Concentrate on prep and technique and something like a Tech will do a great job and your skin will thank you for it. We're men, we like to do the macho thing, but in r...

Re: Amazing, unforgettable scented soap or cream ~your favor
Castle Forbes Lime - in your face, kick up the backside, body slamming right hook of a scent, I love it, unfortunately it dried my skin something terrible. Now I've overcome that issue I may have to get some more, there's nothing else like it.

Re: Smoking is bad for your shave...
I'm not an ex-smoking zealot, I firmly believe that if people want to smoke that's up to them, you certainly pay a lot of tax for doing it here that's for sure. However, I can say that my skin is much better for stopping and definitely irritation free. I had a great shave with a small travel tech th...

Absolutely not IMHO...
As someone whose beard will destroy a Gillette five blade cartridge in a few shaves I consider myself as having a pretty tough beard. I've tried all the adjustables (Fatboys, slims etc) and the likes of the Merkur Futur. None of them give me as good a shave as my Gillette '38 Aristocrat, which is a ...
