My vote is for the Men-u Premier synthetic . For me, it's not stiff at all but powder puff soft on my face. It holds a ton of water and will make great lather with just about any soap or cream (I've gotten superb results with Col. Conk, Palmolive and even ordinary hand soap). At just over $50, it's ...
I am 18, and have been wetshaving for a couple of months now, mostly with my merker HD. I don't whether this means that I win or that I lose. Welcome MAC! Congrats on having the foresight to get into traditional shaving. Many of us here have wasted decades with one multi-blade "shaving system&...
Given our consumer-oriented, mass-throwaway, dumbed-down, politically correct, homogenized, pasteurized, sanitized and hypnotized society, I feared the younger generation would never know the simple pleasures of a pre-virtual world: e.g. reading real paper books for pleasure, shortwave radio, classi...
Welcome, Ian ! You're off to a great start. Despite its small size and tiny price, the Feather travel razor gives really great shaves. It's in my regular rotation next to my SS, Slim, 38C and 1904.
Good job... Gave my son-in-law three (Fat Boy, Slim, and a SS) for starters. He loves them and is spreading the word in Charleston, SC. I'm going to give him a Merkur next.... We shall see what we shall see... :D Thanks, Oscar. I hope your son-in-law knows how lucky he is! And so another happy conv...
Recently gave my younger brother a 1957 SS + Leisureguy's book for his 50th birthday. He's still in the learning curve, but loves it. His teenaged son is getting curious, too. The DE meme is spreading...
It's a tie between my Merkur 38C and 1904. They both give me fantastic shaves, but the 1904 is a little more agile. When I have more time, it's the 38C. Since I got the Mekurs, my poor Gillettes (SS and Slim) hardly get used at all.
Super Speed. My first razor was the Merkur 1904. Way too aggressive to start with. Then I got a 1954 Gillette Super Speed. Perfect. But now after a year of wetshaving, the Merkur 1904 and Merkur 38C are my go to razors--with Feather blades, of course. Which still amazes me. If I'd started out with M...
I've been using my 38C for a week now and just love it. Yes it is a big, hefty razor, but looks are deceptive: this razor is very agile and well-balanced. I'm a medium-sized guy at 5'10" and 157lbs, but I find this razor performs magnificantly so don't be put-off by its size. I'm 5'5" and...
They were concerned with shaving in Predator????? Mac (Bill Duke) is constantly dry shaving with a disposable razor. There's a scene in the jungle where they're hunting the Predator and scared sh**less, Mac pushes so hard on the razor he draws blood--then the razor snaps in two! Awful techn...
Great link, Sue. Like old home week. I beg to differ with the ending, though.
IMHO the generation of the sixties wasn't the "last innocent generation", it is simply The Last Generation.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck at ebay. I bought some razors and had no problem, though I thought my last seller was going to welsh on me. No communication for nearly 3 weeks. That experience and the horror stories I've read here and on ebay itself has cured me. Ebay is too much of crap shoot. Do...
I'm a Boston native and all this talk about Harvard Sq. and such is giving me major nostalgia. The guys are right about the "T". It's a breeze and very extensive. Harvard Sq. was one of my favorite hangouts all during my dissolute youth. Haven't seen the place in 20 years, but as I remembe...
Welcome, Alex ! You're off to a great start. You can't go wrong with all the sound advice around here. You already have the most important requirement : a sense of adventure and the willingness to experiment. Enjoy! BTW, I must compliment you on your English. Wish I could speak Greek as well as you ...
