Murray, Out of curiosity do you have any of the 9 extra you purchased? I wouldn't mind giving it a try. I could pay pal you for one if possible. If not how about a gillette? I have tried both Feather and Derby Extra. The Derby extra seemed to be a little bit better for my face. I have a sample pack ...

Murray, Indeed indeed. I almost feel obliged to stick to the DE as I have so much respect for the kind and civil people on this forum. I also just love the "gadgetry" (if you can call it that, as its old technology). Also becoming passionate about something is just fun. So I like wet shavi...

Murray: You have said everything I felt and more. That was a tremendous paragraph you wrote there. I am 27, have gone back and forth between electric and cartridge and now DE. It will be unpopular to state that with my sensitive skin and very tough beard, electric and a good preshave lotion I can ge...

I have always felt my beard was quite tough and wiry. I often keep a goatee or some sort of facial hair. So today I pulled a few hairs out and looked at them. I am actually amazed how thick and hard they are. Completely just a theoretical wish but, I wish there was a way to compare in a sense. I kno...

DE Use on Chest?

Out of curiosity does anyone use their DE to shave chest hair? I sometimes trim mine down a bit (using a electric trimmer). I am fine with it not being baby smooth. But every now and again I get this very strange desire to whip up my badger brush, lather the chest and go at it with a DE razor. The p...

Pan's Labyrinth Shaving

Ok this is as geek as it gets but... Did anyone see Pan's Labyrinth and notice the multiple scenes of the antagonist shaving with badger and straight blade? I am not hardcore enough to know what blade or brush he was using, but it did make me think of the forums. The other movie/tv show scene people...

Is the proraso pre/post creme really minty and euclyptusy (yes I make up words...what, so did Shakespeare)?

I found the shave creme to be too much for me in terms of the Mint/Euclyptus feeling. Is the Pre/Post creme similiar in that aspect?

I thought you met "going on a date with a razor".

A lot of people on this forum are quite zealous about shaving and razors, so it didnt shock me too much. :P

Maybe "clogging the razor" is a poor description.
The times I have used it, I felt a very noticeable gain in friction in the areas the glycerin was applied. I believe the whole concept of shaving cream is to decrease friction and the glycerin seem to just make my razor stick.

I like the die (dice) idea.
I think I'll put that into effect.

Thanks Jimmy. Great idea!

Other uses for DE Blades

Random thought. I noticed how incredibly thin and sharp DE blades are. Much thinner then the standard Utility razors. They work well for cutting paper much the way you would use an X-Acto knife for. I am sure they work great for many purposes other then shaving. My question is that does anyone uses ...

100% Glycerin pre-shave, Yea or Nay?

So I followed the wonderful advice of Leisureguy's incredible blog post somewhat accurately my first coupe weeks of wet shaving. The one thing I have to really disagree with is using 100% Vegetable Glycerin as a pre-lather. It seems to do nothing but clog my razor and make my shaves worse. I 100% ag...

AHaha you guys are funny. I know its a YMMV question, but I was looking for a ballpark figure. Almond size I understand from a tube. As its a tub and im dipping my brush it is a bit harder to estimate. I guess I'll just keep at it. It looks like my tub will last me 1.5 months at this current rate. Y...

Shaving Creme Expected Life Span

Out of curiosity, how long does a tub the size of Taylor's last you. I believe it is around 5.4oz. As I am still a bit of a newbie I am a little bit unsure if I am using too much creme. But as a general question, how long would this 5.4oz last you if you shaved nearly daily with it? 1month? 2? 3? Th...

Wickets: Thanks for your feedback. So if you have the HD and the Slant, which one do you use most of the time? As for your feather comment: Anything that gets lots of hype is overrated. People tend to believe, either by fact or group-think, that the Feather are the SHARPEST blade. And it seems a con...

Sometimes I wish you could "rent" a razor for a small nominal fee. I am finally getting decent shaves with my HD/Feather. But I do have a thick/Coarse beard. Some people have recommended the slant to me. I think once I feel have "mastered" my HD. I will figure a way to borrow a s...

This thread is fantastic for those who are in the bay area. Thanks to all that contributed. I am in mountain view and I didn't have any trouble finding Proraso at Target. They were all out of the creme in Saratoga, but I found it in Cupertino. Personally I really don't like the feeling of the Proras...

Sal: That is GREAT news! I am in the exact same boat. First week with DE razor was KILLING my skin. I nearly gave up. 2nd week was marginally better. Now I feel I am getting close to mastering shave angle, not using my wrist at all, short strokes, heavy lather, and things are going great. I also hav...
