Hi, I don't think "pulling" will do it. If it does, your knot isn't glued in well in the first place. I usually cut the hairs off down to the handle and then I use a forstner bit in my drill press. It's important to have the brush handle clamped tightly and level. Kind of a tricky operatio...

In the spirit of sharing first-hand data... In today's global marketplace, anyone has access to shaving brush knots manufactured by the same factories that supply the big name brands. Of the materials Ive seen so far, Id be interested in either horn or that wood in the in your orignal post..., the one with the really pronounced contrast. Ah... the black and white ebony!
