I find the Wilkinson Sword Soap (in the blue plastic container, right?) does an excellent job of destinking new badger brushes. So, just keep shaving. :D

EDIT: and their shipping costs are really reasonable!
To make it clear, I have not used them. I do plan to visit one of their brick and mortar stores soon, though. Just passing the link along for info's sake.

This page mentions a "Darwin" as a competitor to the Rolls Razor. Possibly the same company? Not much help in getting more info on your razor, I know.

Might sound like a stupid question, but when you flick the brush to get the water out, how much water should you leave in the brush? I find when I flick it, it's just about dry, maybe I'm flicking to much water out initially? Also thanks for the water rec, I'll pick up a bottle when I go shopping :...

I've used the Attar of Roses cream. Very nice, a bit wetter than your average cream, but amazing scent and great lather and protection during the shave.

It could be your water supply as well. Try heating up some bottled (distilled) water for your next shave experience and see if that helps out. Hardness/softness of water affects lather building quite severely sometimes.

Played around a bit with this today and it seemed to make a real difference. I will pop in a fresh blade tomorrow and test it thoroughly, but this looks like a valuable technique to add to the arsenal! Thanks for sharing!

Re: My switch to a Saftey Razor

The problem I face is that I live in Canada and we Cannucks aren't so luck with being able to purchase all the lovely creams/soaps you folks in the U.S can. The Canadian government loves to charge me duties when I purchased my Razor and the Razor pack! So if anyone nows of a few good Canadian sites...

The more I use this product, the more I love it. It beats out Brylcreem, both domestic and Indian versions.
What's this for? Just hair shaping and styling?

I have a bottle and splash it on once in a while for a change up. I love the smell (reminds me of dad), and the feeling on the face of cool with gentle burning here and there to quickly fade out to just cool...ah! Magnifique!

Coincidentally enough, I just switched from German Wilkinsons to Merkurs in my Fat Boy. The shave was nicer, and I really can't describe how. I wasn't getting a lot of irritation with the Wilkinsons, but it seemed like the Merkurs glided even more smoothly over my face. I don't have a source of Brit...

There are some fragrances out there that, to me, smell like bug spray. A woman walks by with those on and I'm thinking "Ants? Mosquitoes?"

Another new boy

Might as well join another shaving board. :D Been shaving with cartridges for a long time. Then I had some bad shaves with one. Then something inside me snapped when I got a free sample of the latest five blade razor. Dissatisfaction about being a consumer pawn for the razor industry welled up in me...
