I recall it was reviewed on this forum and discussed back in 2007. I searched, but to no avail. I'll keep looking though.

Looking for a shaving cream name that escapes my mind

Hello all. It's been a while since I've posted on these boards, but it's becoming that point in time when I'm running low on shaving creams. There had always been one in particular that I'd wanted to try, but it was not manufactured by one of the major shaving companies. Somewhat of an absurd story ...

Saving grace, if perhaps not face

This past weekend, I attended a formal social function in Tokyo. Much the same as any event in Europe or the United States, there was much parading, critical examination, and comparing. Nevertheless, the primary point of the evening was to conduct, and conclude, several important pieces of business ...

The Elusive Chanel

For some years now, as I have mentioned before on these boards, I have been a bit more than peeved by the degraded quality of Chanel Pour Monsieur sold in both the United States and Europe. I have stopped and questioned sales clerks in Paris, London, Rome, and New York; yet, like the tight-lipped ra...

The important factor is to place the blade in a hydrophobic liquid (baby oil as an example). As rubbing alcohol usually contains a small percentage of water, that can lead to an equally small problem. Ethanol used in laboratories would be ideal, as it's pure (important note: sometimes there are addi...

Shave shopping suggestions for Tokyo?

Hello all, It's been some time since I last posted, but that I can blame on my being located in obscure parts of southeast asia for several months. It's good to be back! From January till the end of March I will be living in Tokyo, commuting to Shinjuku every day with a few trips to Roppongi every w...

I know that they're loved by some and looked down upon by others, but is there any real point to trying the Feather AC razors as a first-swing straight?

Twice a week? Shocking for this forum.

I've tried all three of those creams, and found all of them to be great for shaving with. I prefer the rose for the scent.

That's a great collection to start with!

I own and have used both the Merkur HD (non-comb) and slant bar. The slant bar is, in my opinion, a superb razor. It gives a great, clean, shave with no irritation and BBS almost without fail. However, the slant razor is also considered harder to use for beginners. It, literally, gives the razor bla...

I've been using the Merkur slant for a few weeks straight now, and I haven't experienced that issue.

I have had blood appear mysteriously on a BBS shave that feels as if it's got no irritation, but that's just from doing one or nine too many passes.

I've found myself able to resist the lure of RAD and SBAD, content with SCAD (which I believe I've overcome by-in-large). I've found the trick to be, get a razor that you're happy with, and then try to resist other things (like, say Vintage Razor's deal on the new Merkur). Tubes of shaving cream hel...
