When you email them, be SURE to email the right address. There is a separate one for the US, I didn't get a reply until I mailed that one. So you may have worse luck if you live in England. As for the samples, they sent me quite a bit. Unfortunately I only asked for one kind of sample, and they sent...

I had not thought of this, I'll have to suggest it to him.

Just wanted to say thanks

Guys just wanted to say thanks a ton for all the advice on these forums. You've transformed shaving into something I enjoy, and my wife likes that I shave on a regular basis now. Also, wanted to say that I've passed on the advice and friendliness, and told a friend about DE shaving. Passed him my We...

Zaniix, how long does Floris take to send samples? I emailed my address to them several weeks ago and haven't heard anything but crickets since. I never heard anything back, but I got samples within a week of sending the mail, in a nice large box. I've gotten samples from eShave as well with no pro...

Dating a GEM razor

No, I don't mean asking it to go steady. I was wondering if there was any way to find out when a GEM razor was made? My wife found a GEM G Bar in pristine condition amongst the belongings of her great Aunt and Uncle's old belongings. There are no real markings on it besides "GEM RAZOR" und...

I turn on the water to rinse the razor, then turn it off. So it's on quite briefly. Same with rinsing my face: on briefly, then off. I do this as well. I feel like leaving the water on long enough to fill the sink is more wasteful than just turning it on when you need it. This seems like the least ...

I remember when I was a kid growing up in Alabama. I broke my arm at the elbow, a bad break it was, and my little sister Scout claimed it was the fault of the Ewell's - a bad bunch if ever there was one. I thought the whole arm break got set in motion when Dill came to stay with his aunt Rachel, ou...

Paul sent me some of the Gillette Silver Blues, and I agree with his assessment on them. I find them to perform similarly to the Viking Gillettes, but they are a lot smoother on the first few shaves, and more comfortable.

(sorry to derail from your question Paul).

My wife got me a ceramic dip warmer that was mentioned in these forums a while back as a cheap sort of makeshift scuttle. It worked VERY well today, the lather was definitely very warm.

Michael, Thanks, that's more than I knew. I'm liking the Gillettes I think, I'll have to finish them and test out the feathers and a few more I'm curious about to be sure. I don't know about a thousand though, that's 19 YEARS worth of Gillettes. Do people occasionally split the costs on these sort o...

I would say that, from my experience, don't get frustrated with the shave you get from the DE to start with. If you try to apply the techniques but still have the mentality of "I need to be as smooth as possible from the get go", you will likely have a butchered or very razorburned face. I...

Where to get blades once you find one kind you prefer

So I'm about through the sampler pack, and had a couple of questions about where to purchase blades. Is eBay the best place to get the Derby and IP blades? Is CottonBlossomCrafts the best place for the Feathers? Is there anywhere to get the Swedish Gillette blades in bulk for cheaper? I've also hear...

I did a little experiement this morning, measuring the width of several blades with my digital calipers. I put the blades into a smooth jaw vise, so they wouldn't buckle, then I measured the width of each blade. My reasoning, is that a wider or narrower blade, would extend different distances past ...

Red dyes are the strongest aren't they? It would seem easy to presume that the colored creams that contain red would be most likely to stain a brush. And red seems most likely to stain other colors, considering how tomato foods stain dishes worse than any other kind (like Tupperware), and the type o...

Thursday:

Fat Boy / Gillette silver blue
SMF II
C&E Almond
Lime Skin Food
Nivea aftershave balm.

Wednesday I did the same thing, but with the proraso asb instead of nivea.

Day 4 on the silver blue blade, and it is still holding up very well.
