Re: Gordon?

I got to visit with Gordon once, maybe 2014? Charming guy and we met at a deli in Tampa. Went back in 2016 and tried to contact him and did not hear back. Well, we will be going back to see my parents in St. Pete and I would like to take him to Ybor City near Tampa for cigars, bourbon, a Cuban feel,...

Re: Boots

Well, the first pair, went back with my wife and they were sold. She liked the profile. In Memphis, we have two fine mens stores, and then the Macy's, Dillards, DSW and now a Nordstrom Rack. So I can get all the Johnston Murphy, TImberland, Ecco, Cole Haans, and then Merrell and Vasque, but much of ...

Re: I took a cooking class and now .... What is a show stopper meal

It was good. We had two guys that loved to cook so we ate in every night. Steak and Lobster, burgers, pecan crusted chicken. And I tried raw oysters and loved them. Found a place that was highly rated by Yelp and others, dive bar, but $11 for a dozen raw, and heck $16 for Rockerfeller. Once I tried ...

Re: Boots

Pliner, these are local and buttery smooth but in person, the tan is even lighter. I guess with age they would darken https://www.ebay.com/itm/Donald-J-Pliner-Zaira-Mens-7-5-M-Tan-Brown-Leather-Buckle-Zipper-Ankle-Boots/152913802826?hash=item239a5f764a:g:B4kAAOSwObhaYsUm:sc:USPSPriority!38111!US!-1 ...

Re: I took a cooking class and now .... What is a show stopper meal

Brian, after Christmas we went to the beach (Destin area) and a guy did the sous vide. Made a couple of things. He did a pork tenderloin and seared it first in a cast iron with mustard and herbs and then in the sous vide

Re: BBQ Grills and more specifically, Kamados

Still going strong with my Weber kettle. Got me a beer can chicken stand and gonna start doing it that way. Been pretty bad by going to Costco or Kroger and getting their roasted chicken for $5. Makes two or more meals for my wife and I. Also, gotta try ribs. I know it can be done, just gotta figure...

I took a cooking class and now .... What is a show stopper meal

Got a cooking lesson for a Christmas gift, and took a class at Sur Le Table. Tuscan Italian night. Herb crusted Pork Tenderloin, shallot and basil bruschetta, wild mushroom and white bean ragout, and a poached pear with a sabigione sauce. Chef told me I had good knife skills, and that was due to wat...

Instapot

Well, never really much of one to even use a crock pot, maybe for roast in the winter and very rarely, a chicken recipe. Someone last week gave me an Instapot pressure-cooker and we did chicken in it for chicken tacos. Very, very fast. Someone also said you can take a frozen brisket and cook it in 5...

Ribs in the oven, I kniow, heresy

I have learned that some bbq competition-level cooks will, at times, do some of their ribs when they cook at home in the oven, either after an hour of smoke or the whole way. I have a friend who gave me some rub and told me to baste the ribs with dijon mustard and sprinkle the rub really well over b...

Re: Boots

Well, decided to revive this thread. I need a chukka. This will be for business casual all year, from summer linens to jeans to casual chinos and dress khaki pants with a polo or shirt and sweater.. Wanna stay around $200-$250 range. I was thinking of pebble grain chukkas but for some reason, I am t...

A snuck out cigarets in 5th grade and smoked 40 in one sitting and that did me in for life. I do love the smell of a good cigar and even pipe tobacco

Re: Boots for heavy rain

Get the bean boots and use them Saturday in light rain. Very comfortable and I did go one size down as they suggested. The 6" boots are plenty enough, without insulation, as we have mild winners and if we have snow there's never more than a 3 or 4" accumulation. What I like is that the tongue is gus...

Re: Boots for heavy rain

Some guys wear black tennis shoes. this is more for like running to the mall, Saturday errands, Church and lunch on Sunday, evenings out, all when there is snow/slush on the ground or pouring rain. Re: Boots for heavy rain

Brian. I got outbid on some Muck Clone boots. Some insulation. Still might be an option

Bryan: The Maine shoe does have a softer bottom from what I have read. Not good for the concrete jungle. I'd get the regular gum shoe/duck boot
