Re: Marseille/Aleppo/Castille soaps, Yardley, Mitchells Wool Fat

Used Kirks this morning. lathered up like crazy. I had read something about someone using the puff buff/loofah and swiping the soap on that and then using that to bathe. It was okay, but really, the soap bar lathered up really well. Slight smell at first, but nothing that lasts. So far okay. I could...

Re: Marseille/Aleppo/Castille soaps, Yardley, Mitchells Wool Fat

I have two Mitchell's. If Kirk soap ends up drying I will use the MWF and Yardley I guess. Can't imagine the Marseille being different than Kirk's

I guess Dr Bronner Castille soap is the same as Kirk?

Anything from Whole Foods or Trader Joe's worth it?

Re: Marseille/Aleppo/Castille soaps, Yardley, Mitchells Wool Fat

Walmart had Kirk's Castille and I am going to try that. Seems that it is like any of the artisanal soaps. Wonder if the Marseille-style cube is somehow "better" in that it may have more olive oil as a base?

Marseille/Aleppo/Castille soaps, Yardley, Mitchells Wool Fat

Been using a body wash, but think it has been drying me out. Got a bar of Mitchell's Wool Fat to use, thinking it is close to all natural and the lanolin would be moisturizing. Saw a Pre de Provence soap, and it also has that big block of Olive Oil Soap. I think an Aleppo soap is the same genre but ...

Re: Shampoo that won't make my scalp itch

I had used a shampoo bar, Chagrin Valley, and read up on J R Leggitt's shampoo bars, which may or may not be available at Whole Foods Seems that going without shampoo also helps,in that the scalp reacts to stripping away of natural oils. Some I have read just use mild conditioner, like Suave, and tha...

Re: Great smelling shampoo

Mike, I want to smell that one. I think Target carries it. Smelled a huge bottle of American Crew at Ross. Also been reading up on Every Man Jack and Redken Beer shampoo and though pricey, Jack Black for thin hair

Re: Simpler still

Well, if that is the old version of say 15 years ago, I will purchase them. That first tube was heavenly. Then I found Trumpers Violet and when they messed with that, it was never right. Glad to have Trumpers Rose and Lime back into my bathroom cabinet. Though the soaps have been underwhelming from ...

Re: Hypothetically, what would happen if I click on "delete all board cookies"?

I too prefer a physical hard copy paper. Locally, our daily paper, the Commercial Appeal, was bought out by Gannett, the publisher of USA Today. The number of pages of the paper shrank and the price increased to $2 daily. Sundays, they have men on street corners hawking it for $1, when home delivery...

Re: Dopp Kit/Toiletry Bag

Bass Pro - not a great look but super big, cheap and functional. Nothing fancy, but leak proof lining. Huge as far as cubic inches, almost a third bigger than the others (495 vs 385 or so). https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/white-river-fly-shop-shaving-kit Two big compartments, side zip for like banda...

Re: Dopp Kit/Toiletry Bag

I was thinking that the Bean one actually would not hold as much since unless it fits in a pouch, it would fall out when you hang it up So I think it may be down to these, and if someone who travels more than me can opine, great. Worried about leakage into the interior Leather from Duluth, one of th...

Dopp Kit/Toiletry Bag

Eagle Creek bag has made its match. Nylon inside is kinda tearing up. Needing something but can't decide between a dopp kit or a toiletry bag, like at LL Bean or Land's End. Eagle Creek one had pockets and things and I dont know if that helped or not, maybe wasted space rather than just tumble it al...

Re: Simpler still

I don't like a blob of lather but some lathers have been on the thin/watery side and not enough slickness. I tend to prefer soaps over creams, and have used soaps. One, Joris, is no longer made but after Gordon and Dr. Chris wrote about it, I tried it. And Trumper back in the day, those two. Tried T...

Great smelling shampoo

Ok, I have thin hair and not much. Use a one or two guard for clippers. Very thin on top. So for a couple of years, I have been using bar soap when I shower for shampoo. Found an old bottle of Aveda Rosemary Mint shampoo and it was invirgorating. Not much of an effect on my hair. So, I was wondering...

Re: Face soap

I looked through old threads and bought some things from Connaught Shaving. Two big bars of Wool Fat soap (150g) and two tubes of Marvis shipped to the US was $28.00. Heck, just the toothpaste here in Memphis is $11 to $14 a tube and then tax. So the Fat ended up being about $3.60 a bar and if not a...

Face soap

Been using a Musgo Real soap for the face. I have experienced some dryness around the folds of my nose and then between my eyebrows. So thinking I need a creamier soap, even if that is a bottled face soap. Used to love Floris Rose Geranium soaps as they were creamy and smelled great - think it may h...
