Re: History of Witch Hazel
I always wondered about our use of witch hazel. I knew it was an American product from the early generations of the Eastern seaboard.. They used what was available to them. I knew the Indians had introduced the plant to them as well. There was a very early soap company, from the same region of Buffa...

Re: Razor monogamy
Quite right, Buzz. This thread desperately needs some HMW scans from drP. Another person, entirely unrelated, is Dr. Moss and his photography. I wish he would upload a SOTD pic (every so often) as I love his different ideas regarding the daily practice of shaving. Then wrap it all up with a final su...

Yes, HAIL, PEPE! That picture is a bit "in your face", but look at that hair grade! Now, let's talk about cartons of Trumper shave refills. That little reference peaked my curiosity. 12, 8 refills made up a carton? Well, I have yet to use the above, but I have 8 tallow refills of the Rose....

That is what I had remembered. Thank you for confirming. I just didn't want you to short change that workbadger by 20 years. Now that is getting your money's worth and then some! The overall presentation of those vintage HMW jobs, is simply breathtaking. Here is my vintage #18 in Euro. I can live wi...

To review...there is nothing minimalist about my kit. The two brushes I used in sequence were a Plisson Plexi HMW #20 from c. 1972 to c. 1985 Buzz Hi Buzz. The first brush was used up until around 2005 I seem to recall. Then the second one replaced that, no? As to razor fidelity; this is the 'Gener...

[quote="lanolite"]Colgate Deodorant Beauty Soap, with lanolin and hexachlorophene. From 1956!
My God, lanolite...go buy some fresh bars of Irish Spring...would you!
*I wish Cogate made a matching shave stick to go with the bath soap, but that is another thing.

Re: Palmolive shaving soap & cream has been discontinued.
I would venture to guess the three oldest U.S. bath soaps would be: Cashmere Bouquet, Palmolive and Jergens. All continuously made here since the 1870s, 1880s. Caswell Massey, had their Castile soap made since the year 1861, but I'm not sure if it is offered any longer. The Cashmere Bouquet can be p...

Re: Palmolive shaving soap & cream has been discontinued.
The "Cashmere Bouquet" bath soap, has the identical ingredient (soap base), as the older un-reformulated shaving stick. That is proof , to me, that this is the original U.S. formula but they were made at Colgate-Palmolive facilities in Germany. The soap has been made since 1872 with the Pa...

Re: Vintage Shulton Old Spice Fresh Lime Aftershave
I can faintly remember the Lime deodorant stick on the shelves also. I sure wish Shulton was still around making their ranges. I never had a chance to try the Fresh Lime nor the flagship scent. Their shave soap was probably the best American one ever made, and was readily available to all takers.

Re: suggestions for long hair?
Hi FireDragon and welcome to SMF. It sounds like you've used some decent hair products in the past. I'm not sure if you're just wanting to control the 'flyaways' or frizz, but I would suggest the 'soft Style' line from Paul Mitchell. The 'Soft Spray' might be just the ticket. The 'Soft Sculpting Gel...

Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, that looks like the good old violet, too. I'm trying to get a good sniff ,whilst my single whitecap brush is hissing over my shoulder.

Re: Q.E.D. Shave soap selection???
I am another one bummed that Q.E.D. s. soap is no more. They had been sold since about 1982. I had asked for some of his scents to be offered in tubs, such as the Mocha Java. The Rose Geranium, Fresh Lime and Wild Rose were also top tier products. You might check out these as a replacement option. N...

Atkinsons *SOLD*
Hi all. I have an 8 oz. glass bottle of the Atkinsons "ROYAL BRIAR" cologne that was discontinued around 2007-8. It has been kept in a dark cold closet since that time and is cellophane wrapped. This is a fairly potent scent that is rare to find. The factory was heavily damaged during Hurr...
