Fathering a child is the easy part -- that's an instinct rather than a learned skill. OTOH, being a good father -- that is an essential skill, and there are too many men who don't know how to do that . :( Or is it your definition of "fathering" that is too narrow? See the website of "...

Leisureguy was kind enough to turn me on to the Treet Blue Special, which is a carbon-steel blade. The Swede was my blade of choice at the time and I'm happy to say that I've found a blade that I find is comparable in shave quality at a much lower price point. Leisureguy would be the first to admit...

This UK supplier does them. If you by in bulk, I guess the postage costs would be acceptable.

I use Swedes, Feathers and Treet Platinums

The Swedes combine smoothness with sharpness, the Feathers are sharper but a little rougher and the Treets in the middle. I can use all three.

Nothing else I have found is sharp enough for my white beard.

John Lewis sell Kent brushes and Swedish Gillette blades - that's if you have one near you. But a good selection of blades can be had from http://www.suffolkspares.co.uk/samplepack.html as you have noted. You can get feathers there now, but some of us have noted that the Treet Platinum Blades a very...

UK members should really try Treet Platinums

It's convenient to get blades from Tesco or Boots, but the range here should be tried.

Has anyone tried the Open Comb from Muehle-Pinsel? Here is a link to it (not the best picture) http://www.muehle-pinsel.de/shop/en/razors/classic/double_edge_razor_in_box/2_24_1_396.html I had the opportunity to hold one at a store and it is not a Merkur open comb head. The teeth are wider. It does...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=N0UeIHzma3c Absolutely hysterical movie about men's grooming. The tale of "Man Sweater" Rubenstein, "Follicle" Phil Fontana, and Frank "Furback" Sack. Funniest video I've seen in a long time. It's a must see. Official video is here http://www...

Does anyone know the proportion of open comb / safety bar sales? That would give us an objective index of their current popularity. And what about the fixed head / adjustable ratio? Third question: Are more Slants sold than open combs? This would give us a better feel for current preferences, if any...

How popular are open comb razors?

How popular are open comb razors? My Father used one, and my Grandfather, but they seemed to have been reduced to a niche market in a niche market. Am I wrong? Does anyone know what proportion of Merkurs sold is open comb? And what proportion of eBay sales are of this type? Is it just a matter of fa...

There are some very good basic shaving soaps, creams and after shave balms on the market by reputable firms like Palmolive and Nivea. I do wonder how much better the premium products are - they might smell a little more refined, but I wonder if they offer any technical advantage? And again, in one m...

As a friend said, "This security theatre isn't meant to make us safer. It's meant to keep us scared." Maybe there's some truth in that. It makes the new Prime Minister look stern and resolute and keeps us all obedient little citizens, passive in the face of the next erosion of civil liber...
