Rooney small style 2 in finest
Just received my Rooney small style 2 in finest from Jim at Vintage Blades. What a gorgeous looking brush: the bristles and the handle wow me. I haven't used it yet, but it's so beautiful that I just want to look at it. Sat it next to my Simpson PJ 1 in best and what a difference (in price too). I l...

Thanks Prism. I do like aftershave with a bit of burn and I regard the burn from Pinaud Bay Rum one of the attributes I like. I also like Aqua Velva Ice Sport from a smell perspective so I am going to buy the Polar Ice given the price regardless of its lack of burn. I like the website you referred m...

That's all I needed to know so following this I will jump on the phone and order a bottle together with a tub of JM Fraser's shaving cream from:
thebeautyfactory.com. What deals, but available only in Canada - pity.
Thanks guys

Barber Shop Classics Polar Ice Aftershave
Anyone tried this stuff? I like traditional barbershop-type aftershaves and this one is advertised as such.

I've been using a PJ 1 in best for the past ten years and love it, in fact the only time I haven't used it is when I am traveling. It really is a pretty brush and performs very well. I find the best badger bristles provide the right amount of body and softness and are not scrubby at all; don't know ...

Proraso
Picked up a tube of P Green yesterday at the SDM in Oakville Place. I've been wanting to try this stuff for a long time; used it this morning and really regret not searching for it harder in the past: it is terrific in every respect. I'm a dyed in the wool Taylor's Rose cream man, but this P Green h...

I've been using a Simpson's PJ 1 in best badger for the past 10 years and have found it to be an excellent brush. It's at the smaller end of the brush range and has the right amount of body for me without being scrubby; I like it better than my AOS super turnback travel brush, which is also a good b...

Gordon, I think you've hit the nail on the head. I want to indulge myself, as this is to be my 60th birthday present to myself. I want something that is unique, aesthetically pleasing and that is pleasurable to use day-in and day-out for the rest of my life. I want to be able to look at it every mor...

All your replies are very helpful. I'm not overly keen on the European-style brushes and much prefer the English-style, put down to my genes (Scot and English), so I can eliminate Shavemac and SR. As concerns Rooney, I'm inclined to rule out the finest since the prices appear exhorbitant for what I ...

Funny thing no one has commented on the Shavemac; from other threads I've followed I expected many comments. Just to confuse myself further I've added the Simpson PJ 2 in super to my list although I'd like to diversify away from the PJ-style. I've eliminated, however, the Rooney finest, as the expon...

Shaving brush quandry
I've been using a Simpson PJ 1 in best badger for the past 10 years; I also have an AOS turnback travel brush in super badger. I am very happy with my PJ 1 and like my AOS although I find it a bit floppy. Notwithstanding the very satisfactory performance of my PJ 1, I want to replace it as my main b...
