Re: World Cup 2018

Watched the Iceland v. Argentina match. The Icelanders are a plucky lot (Viking blood perhaps) and they had a game plan which they executed wellI. I was pleased with the final result 1-1. =D>

Re: World Cup 2018

I will add my two cents to the avalanche of responses. I understand that the favorites are Brazil, France, Germany, and Spain. On a related subject, I understand that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in USA. At the present time 17 US cities are candidates for the games 8 years from now...

My first choice is Brazil; second choice is Portugal; and third choice is Spain.

Re: Spam?

As SWMBO is out tonight and I haven’t eaten Spam in a while, I decided to break into my secret stash of Spam for dinner. SWMBO has a real aversion to Spam, so I’ve had to hide a tin of it well, as she would throw it out if she found it. Anyway, I ate a couple of slices of Spam, garnished with some H...

Re: Kitchen knives

Hopefully it'll be a while before they decide straight razors and DE/SE blades are too sharp for the citizenry to have and use. It occurs to me that they seem to be treating their citizens as if they are little children who might accidentally pick up a carelessly laid knife or otherwise and hurt th...

Re: Spam?

I bought a tin of Spam this morning. I can hardly wait to tuck into it, but I have to do it on the sly as SWMBO detests the stuff. I’ve secreted it away, but if she found it she’d have my guts for garters (to put it politely).

Re: Sneakers from LLBean

Good on you. I like LL Bean and I’ve been shopping there for 25 years without a hitch. In the winter I wear their lined chinos and jeans and all year round I wear their shirts. I particularly like their dress shirts as they come in exact collar and sleeve length size and in a tailored fit. Unfortuna...

Re: Spam?

Yes, it shrinks when it’s heated whereas other things shrink when they’re chilled. 8) I like Spam, but couldn’t eat it often. I have close friends who grew up in the outports of Newfoundland; they tell me that as kids the ‘poor’ kids brought lobster sandwiches to school for lunch whilst the ‘rich’ k...

Re: Faux horse synthetic and refurbished Semogue wooden handle

Very nice work on the handle. A handsome brush overall even though I’m not a fan of synthetic knots. Seeing that it started with a boar knot you’ve turned a pig’s ear into a silk purse.

Re: Tobacco Anyone?

I used to enjoy a good cigar, but gave it up nine years ago for health reasons. I still enjoy the smell of a freshly lit cigar. Every time I smell cigar smoke it reminds me of a line from Rudyard Kipling’s poem ‘The Betrothed’,

‘...And a woman is only a woman, but a good Cigar is a Smoke. ...’

Rather like the noxious (for me) Mitchell's Wool Fat.

Sad, but true.

Good doctor, you are not alone. I’ve tried diligently to like MWF, but to no avail: I dislike its smell, the lather it makes and how it feels on my face. I hope Wendell isn’t listening in.

Fantastic looker. How easily does it splay? Does it work well for lathering on the face with a circular motion?

Re: For Marmite lovers only

It's used in an almost microscopic layer. :) OK, maybe not quite that thin, but I exaggerate to make the point. It's not used like butter. A little goes a very long way. I wonder how a small amount would work in soup or gravy as a flavor enhancer? Good question, but in my opening post the recipe ca...

Re: For Marmite lovers only

Does Marmite need to be refrigerated? Searching around I get the impression the answer is no. This morning I reflexively put the just opened jar in the fridge. Glad that you like Marmite. I love the stuff, but have to use it in moderation or else it over powers my taste buds if it’s just on bread/c...

Re: Boots for heavy rain

The Hunter short Wellies will definitely keep your feet dry, but they’re not very stylish unless you’re one of the huntin’, fishin’, shootin’ set. The Chelsea-style boots are passable unless there are puddles. As for a Bean boots, although I’ve been a loyal Bean customer for 25 years I’ve never foun...

Re: SilkSmoke synthetic brush

Aesthetically the knot looks very nice. I don’t know why most manufacturers of synthetic knots think they have to “jazz-up” their knots with different coloured fibres; it just makes them shriek “plastic”. I’ll be interested in how this knot performs.

I switched to a 15° chefs choice....blissful :D :D https://www.amazon.com/ChefsChoice-Professional-Sharpener-100-percent-EdgeSelect/dp/B0018RSEMU clive Me too. A great piece of kit. Although I have, and know how to use, a wet stone, I much prefer this. Call me lazy, but it works very well.

Lovely. The beehive and Emillion are particular favourites of mine. Where on earth did you get them?
