Advice

My Dovo straight is dull and I can not get it shaving sharp anymore. I have a Norton Waterstone Extra Fine, Extra Extra Fine, and a 13,000 grit ceramic stone to finish. I use an x pattern in my sharpening and nothing is working. Could this be overhoning and any advice would be nice. How many strokes...

I have done that and we will see what happens. The razor just doesn't shave like it used to and that is why I originally posted. It was tuggiing and pulling Overhoning: The term implies that the edge has been honed past the optimum and has degraded meaning the edge is starting to chip or that some t...

Do you recommend the up and down or the X pattern? How does one correct overhoning? Please help me and give your secrets to success. The razor I am...

Clubman Aftershave

smells great and great after a shave: just a little sting initially but it feels great after a cold water rinse of the face

Sir

Cold water closes the pours and hot water opens them. I have tried cold water shaves and it does not work for me. As mentioned, look at your razor as well

No more canned shaving cream / gels

I have completely abandoned any canned shaving creams because soap and a brush do the trick.; plus canned shaving gels are getting more expensive and are NOT beter.

Honing and Strops?? How many

I have a Nortion 4000 (white) and 8000 (yellow). How many hones on the white and yellow do you recommend?? How many times on a strop do you recommend? How many strops daily after shaving? This is my struggles to try and reach a good number and balance. Please help

i believe that once the user understands that it is not the razor but the angle he shaves at and realizes that pressure is not required for close shave then they have learned how to use a straight razor but it takes others longer than others to understand this concept.

is it a straight razor or not

I have been using the kind of straight razor that you split a DE blade down the middle and insert one half into the slot and shave. Is this considered a straight razor or what?

Sir

I too shave with the DE every now and then because I get in a time constraint situation but I find myself being cut more with a DE than my Dovo: either way is still a great way to shave

Steeling a Straight Razor

is it ok to run a straight razor over a knife steel to straighten the edge instead of stropping or will this mess up the blade? The knife steel does not remove metal but rather straightens the edge. Thx
