Basically, if you are looking at OEM plating, Gillette used very thin gold plating, then lacquered over the top to protect the finish. Without the lacquer there, your whiskers would eventually rub off the plating. Remember, the plating was likely very near pure gold, which is quite soft. If you are ...

Nice find! But Barbasol is not the only one on the band wagon.... My 5yr old son has recently discovered The Simpsons tv show, so we have started recording episodes on our DVR. In the past month there were two episodes featuring a DE, one from 1999 where Homer is shaving with a DE, and a new one las...

The two NOS I have been using (quite regularly actually) are the Personna 74* and the Gillette 'The Spoiler'. Both from the 70's, and both are excellent. Far better than most of what is available today. I find the yellow Gillette 7 o'clock sharp edge to be the closest current production, but it is n...

I have re-lacquered a couple (that I had ignorantly removed the lacquer by boiling during cleaning before I knew not to  ) using a Rustolium rattle can. As long as you get the right distance from the razor you will get a nice even smooth shiny coat. After air drying for about 24 hours, pop int...

My stash is kept in original packaging (all except one brand of vintage blades I hoard, as it is very difficult to find un-opened packs of those) in a plastic drawer unit in the bathroom closet. I would NOT remove them from the paperboard/plastic/metal containers if at all possible. You would risk r...

I'll bite. As some have stated, doing the initial buy-in cost is not really fair due to life of soap puck, blade longevity etc. So I will do mine assuming that you have to buy the kit from scratch, and use the whole thing, then run an average..... So, the average soap puck will last 6-12 weeks with ...

Regarding the Cella scent - I love it! All the other almond scented soaps and creams are way to sweet and foody smelling. I don't pick up the "ghee and salt" fragrance that Gordon mentions, but I get a laugh every time he mentions it. I suppose if it smelled like ghee and salt to me, I wo...

OK, I read the article, and was a bit offended by it....am I the only one? First, real barber shops still exist....just not in hell-holes like NYC apparently. I am not disrespecting NCY, but the prices they charge for common goods and services is absolutely and 100% insane. The fact that people acce...

I completely missed this thread the first time 'round, so I am adding my $0.02 now....sorry for being late... Gevalia coffee is good. But it is way over priced. The biggest reason I am against the thermal mug thing id thst most I have seen are plastic. Either the beverage area is plastic (the worst kind) or the lid is plastic (not much better), both of which change the flavor if the drink. So I would need to find one with either glass, silver, or gold linin...

A manley mug to drink from

I'm sitting at work having my afternoon tea an a biscotti when I realize my mug is overly heavy, and need not be. I figure while I am at it (the whole adding things to my holiday wish list thing) I should add a new mug to my list. But what to get???? Can you gents help me out? Requirements: * 12 to ...
