Re: Solo Stove

Sam, the Solo doesn’t radiate much heat, either, but the beauty of it is the lack of smoke as it performs a very efficient burn.

Re: Gin

I’ve discovered a new premium gin that I find to be very worthy. It’s called The Botanist, and though I feared it might be too floral with such a name, it’s actually very well balanced. It hails from Scotland, specifically the Isle of Islay, with a price at which a thrifty Scot might take umbrage. N...

Re: Gin

Interesting that both of these illustrations include the “three dots.” The state of South Carolina still uses three dots to denote its liquor stores, also known as “red dot” stores.

Re: Gin

Gordon’s is my “house gin” for dirty martinis. Tanqueray is what I usually order in restaurants because it’s ubiquitous. Boodles is what my family gives me for gifts.

Re: Cataracts

I have had just my left lens replaced. My right eye is still in pretty good shape. My doctor recommended a simple, single-focal lens due to my diabetes. It’s been awhile, but I think he felt like that was best in case my eye underwent diabetic changes in the future. What I have ended up with is de f...

Re-reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It’s a true story that reads like a Tennessee Williams Southern gothic screenplay.

Re: I think I’m going to drink the peloton Kool-Aid

Prloton has lots of competition now. You might check other options as well. I know there is a rower with video link, and they are more full-body workouts than stationary bikes. Just a thought, Sam.

Wow, for a minute I thought this was a new thread and got excited when I saw a post from Squire. Alas, it’s from 2014.

Re: COVID survivors

It’s a very strange disease. Two people in seemingly good health can have very different reactions, one barely notice and the other get deathly ill. I can’t help but think the secret to an effective treatment lies in understanding why it affects people so differently.

Re: COVID survivors

Hear! Hear! Wear a mask! On one side or the other — and maybe both — masks are helping prevent the spread of Covid. It’s really THE VERY LEAST you can do to protect your fellow man, and maybe yourself, too. Thanks, Chris, for helping prevent the spread of misinformation.

Re: New hobby: drone flying and video creation

SC Beaufort is pronounced BYOO-fort, while in NC it’s pronounced BOW-fort. The SC version is supposed to be very nice, also, and was the setting for the movie, “The Great Santini.”

Re: New hobby: drone flying and video creation

Enjoy! Beautiful little town with a maritime history, including whaling way back when.

Edit: it occurs to me that you might be thinking of Beaufort, SC, not Beaufort, NC, where my footage was taken. I could be wrong.

Re: New hobby: drone flying and video creation

Clive, Beaufort is a well-known layover for big yachts traveling south for the winter. The blue-hulled yacht, Focus, charters for $150,000 per week.
