Re: Derby Blades, A Review

After neglecting Derbys for years I decide to open the seal on a 5-pack (there are a dozen or so packs in the closet).

Quite pleased, I have gone with using one side of the blade until it surrenders, then using the other, I'm 5 days out of one side with good shaves each day.

That wouldn't work for me going against the grain on a second pass.

Re: How did you discover wetshaving?

After slapping down a few 20s on the counter for 4 multi-blade cartridges I got home and half the package was ruined due to plastic encrusted in the blades.

So there had to be a better way...

Someone recommended mantic59's youtube posts and that's all I can recall for specifics...

Re: Return to Simplicity

Thanks JWW! When the ratrace is grinding me down it's good to reach out without looking and put together the old tried and true shaving tools. When I have more time to think about it I like to mix and match again and try something new. and there is an electric razor out there that will be perfect fo...

Re: Worst scent ever

I'd say Lilac Vegetal, but with a caveat: in the bottle it smells like a combination of Jay's Fluid and a urinal cake, but once on my skin for a few minutes it doesn't smell too bad. One scent I can't stand is Brut; in the bottle and on my skin it just turns me off. My cat's urinal cake for the LV....

Been on a Derby kick the last month, got a ton of them in storage, and enjoy the risk-free close shave it gives.

Re: razor aggressiveness help

Feathers are the most "aggressive" in that I have on many occasions drawn blood without consciously realizing I cut myself. For some of the listed blades you know you have cut yourself but you still reasonably hope that you won't bleed from it. Some razors were too aggressive, the Vision always felt...

Re: Blade longevity?

I believe it's random, and also depends on my preferences at the time. Sometimes a blade starts out great and I know I can get 15 days off it if I want to. Others emit a harbinger on the first pass. And the shaves past day 7 are different for me, I don't mind the duller blade allowing me to grind in...

Re: Razor monogamy

Under my breaking of monogomy from my Slant.... I tried the Futur for a few weeks after letting it sit there for 4 years. It is too wild and open a blade exposure for me and my tremor/clumsiness/preoccupied mind and I cut my hands a few times, fortunately all was superfluous. Also the Polsilver blad...

Re: One pass shave

I use a DE razor and I see a lot of guys here that do a 3 or 4 pass shave. I use a little more pressure and do a one pass shave. Been doing this for a long time and I find it is enough. I found that with a 2 pass shave, it was too close and I didn't have enough stubble for the next shave. Anyone el...

What I'm only scared is that they'd go way to hard on my skin. I've got some in growns/razor bumps on a spot on my neck so I don't want to leave in an ambulance! A coworker got a straight razor shave at Stark in Unionville on the weekend. Not aware of too many places that would do this for a first ...

Re: Gillette Sensor Excel

I have read posts here on SMF that have made me aware that more than a few SMF members have used or are using the Sensor Excel twin blade razor and cartridges, and seem to like them. I got curious a few days ago and located a NOS Sensor Excel razor in a package with two cartridges. It arrived today...

Re: The Atlantic: How to Make Perfect Coffee

Julius, I used to have a French press, but I broke it. It's what everyone in Quebec uses, I found. What health issues are you referring to? From browsing the 'net it appears that the lack of filtering poses a few problems for your health; I'll let you see for yourself. So 1/4 cup of ground coffee p...

Re: Best Trac II blades in production

I don't mean to demean anyone else's use of multi-blade cartridge razors. I have a history of getting hacked up by them -- at least until the M3, something I bought on a whim. Even with the lube strip giving up the ghost after just a few uses, the Gillette still marches on. The results are on a par...

Julius, yes, indeed, I resemble my avatar more and more. I used a Feather in a slant bar for years. But when I shaved the goatee, for some reason, it would not really get my chin right under the chin at the jaw bone. And now that I am using the disposable, I am finding that it cuts smoother than th...

Goop in a can does a decent job.

The enjoyment of the brush and good cream/soap is a big part of this pursuit, but some days I don't have the time or energy to spend on prep.

It does get that hectic...
