Re: General razor - newly redesigned model

So even though the razor costs a lot more than a Gillette, it's much more economical in the long run because the blades last a lot longer and cost a lot less.

In addition, the razor itself has good resale value.

Re: Alcohol and Rhodium British Aristocrat

It's still a great little razor. I prefer it over flare-tip Rockets and Super-Speeds.
What about the non-flared Rocket? I'm asking because I happen to have one, and think highly of it. I've never tried or even seen a flare-tip Rocket, except in photos.

Re: Cobra Conversion

Gene, another option is to experiment with various combinations of Schick injector razors and blades. Different models have different amounts of blade exposure. The adjustable model is not hard to find for a moderate price. The less common blade that might give you the closest shave would be the sho...

Re: Cobra Conversion

I think the longer of the two Proline blades will fit the unmodified General or Cobra. I only have the shorter Schick injector size, but Gary might be glad to send you some longer ones. You might find it nicer than the Feather. Shaves very close, but easier on the skin.

Re: Razor recommendations for shaving your head?

I don't shave my head, but I do shave the back of my neck to try to keep the hairline there clean. I usually use an injector razor, even if that's not what I just used that day on my face.

Re: Titanium coated blades?

It's not that unusual to find completely unmarked Personna blades. It should be a clue to which kind they are.

But being blank like that doesn't guarantee that they're Personna.

Re: Razor recommendations for shaving your head?

I had to look up the Omnishaver. It looks like two Fusion cartridges in a frame. You move the frame back and forth, making for a very fast shave.

Not cheap, though - they're well over $10 each.

Re: New Cart Alternative -- $1.11 apiece from Costco

Are you referring to triple blades? THey didn't look like they'd fit the Mach 3, and because the Sensor handles are so old now, I don't think they'll be compatible, either.

You could probably get Costco to tell you. It's likely they fit something already out there.

Re: gillette takes a hit

On the Costco website, the picture of the triple blade cartridges says "German blades." From that and from the appearance, I doubt that it's compatible with Mach 3. It didn't get particularly good reviews. Because of patent expiration, there are now a lot of Mach 3 compatible cartridges, though I ha...

Titanium coated blades?

I happened to look at the Qshave adjustable razor (Merkur Futur clone) web page at Ali Express today, and it mentioned that it came with a pack of five US-made titanium coated blades. Does anyone know who would be making these? My educated guess is Personna. And the first page I found when looking u...

Re: The Science of Sharp Blog

Possibly a dumb question, but this is an area where I know next to nothing, except a few facts I retained from elementary school, such as limestone being "softer" than quartz. Could the grit number vs. actual "roughness" in use be related at all to the hardness of the underlying minerals? I'm guessi...

I went crazy trying to figure out the right price for old Schick twin injector blades

I just ordered a bunch of Schick twin injector blades from an eBay seller, but I misread the ad. I thought I was buying 32 blades (4 packs of eight) for under $30, but it turned out to be four packs with two blades each. I checked other completed sales, and found that the price per blade was all ove...

Re: gillette takes a hit

no mention of wet shaving as an alternative As far as I know, P&G (which owns Gillette) still owns Art of Shaving. Maybe the strategy is to make their idea of "acceptable" wet shaving so expensive that Gillette's cartridges are competitive in comparison. But I guess that stopped working. I guess th...

Re: SOLD - Heads for RazoRock SLOC DOC (double open comb) / Yaqi Mellon razor - $10

I don't think any DOC's from Phoenix were made by Yaqi, or was there one? Phoenix had several different ones, made from different metals, and just released a new version. I first heard of the double open comb on the Phoenix website. Then I found the Razorock version, and that took me to Yaqi, who ma...
