Re: Schick Injector Type L Variations

The other variation is in the markings on the back of the head of L1 models: Type L 1 vs 2.jpg The one on the left is older, and looks like the markings on the back of the earlier Type I and Type J models. I don't know if the two heads shave any different, or even if there's a difference from the sh...

Schick Injector Type L Variations

At safetyrazors.net there are four different Type L models listed: L1: Smooth back on handle ribbed below L2: Stick Schick gearshift lever handle L3: Schick Grip tennis raquet handle L4: Schick II twin blade with blue handle Let's ignore the novelty models L2 and L3 for the moment. I've never seen t...

Re: Razor Cleaning Guide

I only had one razor with some buildup, and it was pretty mild. I soaked it in some (approx) 5% Oxi-Clean dishwasher booster with hot tap water, swished the razor around for a little while, and waited 5-10 minutes, and got good results. My guess is that I'd get good results with a cruddier razor if ...

Re: Razor Cleaning Guide

I wonder if other dishwasher and laundry "boosters" would have the same effect.

Re: A Guessing Game

Should I reveal the answer? The replies seem to have petered out.

I'll give a hint - the feature is apparently an attempt to have some new patentable feature, but it doesn't have to do with how the blade is positioned while the blade is cutting your whiskers.

Re: Markings on Muhle Heads

My current theory is that the closed comb Muhle head has no markings, the older (2011) open comb head has a "4" under the cap, and the newer (2013) open comb head cap is marked with a "5." This is based on seeing a lot of closed comb heads and having a 2013 open comb head cap with a "4." The "5" is ...

Markings on Muhle Heads

I had thought that all my Muhle heads were free of markings. When I recently got a razor on eBay that had a Muhle handle, I thought that the "4" on the underside of the top plate meant that it wasn't made by Muhle. But then I noticed that my (2013) R41 head does have a number under the top plate, so...

Re: Ear muffs (sound reduction)

A lot of music clubs sell foam earplugs for cheap these days. Some years ago, I took a hearing test and found that I had some high-pitch hearing loss in my left ear. The technician thought that it was likely from car wind noise from the days before almost all cars had A/C and to keep cool I kept the...

Re: Another interesting eBay vendor

I've gotten some pretty nice razors pretty cheap through auctions that started low. But some stuff finds many bidders right away. The Schick Type F injector razor last week, for instance. Or the Personna 74 injector blades that just mentioned "tungsten" and not "74."

A lot of the bidding is low right now, and some of these are new or near-new.

WTB or Trade for - Gillette razor parts - Tech and Tuckaway

I'm looking for a nickel Tech head, preferably 1950's, and the bottom plate from a 1920's silver-plated Tuckaway. Preferably a British Tuckaway, but the main thing is that it's the same material - silver plated. Failing that, I could trade or sell the parts I have - a very nice silver-plated British...

Muhle R89 and Jagger DE86BL

I now have a Muhle R89 with standard "twist" pattern chrome handle for sale. Mint condition, $28, including shipping. I also have a Jagger R89BL, which has the same head as the Muhle, but a mostly black handle of about the same length. One minor flaw - a very small amount of worn plating at the bott...

Re: gillette rubie's

Thanks, Bill, it's good to have my guess confirmed. I'm now tempted to buy some blades from them. Maybe they get cheap shipping by keeping a bunch of stuff stocked somewhere in the USA. has anyone tried one of these? https://www.razorbladesclub.com/shop/ying-jili-blue/ I've been leery of Chinese bla...

Re: A Guessing Game

Chris, you're right! (not)

And no, it's not to slant the blade.

I'll also eliminate my original guess - to have yet another patentable, exclusive thing to hold the blade in the razor, in addition to pins, slots, and all the other projections.

Re: A Guessing Game

No, they're not for alignment while you're shaving.

They do push the blade off the bed, but the reason doesn't have to do with making it easier to grasp it.

FS: DE Blades - Personna Med Prep (USA, bulk), Gillette Permasharp (India, green box)

For the med prep (hospital) blades, I'm asking 25¢ each, plus $1.50 for shipping any quantity. Shipped in their wrappers, no other packaging, and in a way that minimizes the shipping cost while not hurting the blades. I have a little more than 100 available. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *...

Re: A Guessing Game

I found it while looking for patents for the Gillette NEW razor, came up with an assumption about the projections, then read the patent and discovered that my assumption was wrong. My search started by reading an old thread we were both in, where we and others were trying to figure out if you had a ...
