That's not a bad bat. The kids go through them so quickly, it's best to try and get them used. They are going to get more expensive too. The last bat I bought was about 300. My son played travel ball and I donated most of his old bats for kids who couldn't afford 'em. Good luck!

Re: good sipping whiskey?
Thanks for the recommendation. I about the closest I've gotten to that geographically is Yamakazi 18 by Suntory, which is an excellent single malt. I grab a bottle whenever it appears at my stockist, which is rather rare. They usually have the 12 year old, which is not bad either.

The Van Winkle is very hard to come by. I know the owner of the parent company (Buffalo Trace) but that by no means gives me unlimited access. It only helps me snatch a bottle every now and again and I make them last. I'm currently sitting on half a bottle of 15 year. Nw My wife's cousin called me ...

Re: Where Have You Gone, Joe DiMaggio
Ron Swoboda, a member of the 1969 Mets, has what is in my opinion the greatest bit of sports memorabilia. On one side of his fireplace mantel, he has a baseball autographed by Paul Simon which reads, "Where have you gone, Joe Dimaggio?" On the other side of the mantel, he has a baseball au...

Maker's Mark isn't bad and readily available. I really enjoy Buffalo Trace and I sip on my Van Winkle on special occasions.

Jean-Claude Van Damme and Volvo
I'm sure that you've all seen it by now. The Jean-Claude Van Damme Volvo truck commercial. I think it is wonderful. Maybe it reminds me of another time. Maybe it reminds me of redemption. Maybe it's just really cool.

Re: Travel bag for carry on which may double as a briefcase?
I just find that when I travel, a hardshell case is easier to wheel around as its more rigid, easier to maneuver, and protects things like pressed clothes, cameras, etc better. The smaller of the two eBags that I mentioned pops right into the overhead bin. If your primary mode of travel is by car, t...

Re: Travel bag for carry on which may double as a briefcase?
I don't think a combination briefcase/travel bag would work for me. I've had Filson, Tumi, Barbour and Red Oxx but I've found these rolling hardside cases to be the best. I've taken the carry-on and the next size up all over the US, to Europe and to Asia without a hitch. Light and durable. My busine...

Re: Recommendations sought for stereo system
The reality is that you simply can't get much speaker for $30 or 60 or 90 dollars. I like the Paradigm mini-monitors for bookshelf use, but they are a couple hundred at least. Also, you really can't expect much bass from cabinets that small. I'm with the crowd that says keep the Marantz and save for...

Re: Newspaper Death Watch
The continued "dumbing down" of America. The masses don't want in-depth reporting. They want a 30 second blurb with lots of pictures. And they don't want to read about it hours or even a day after it happened. The New Orleans Times-Picayune just went to three days a week and is circling th...

Re: new CCW pistol
This is my daily carry. The big one (Sig P226) is issued to me and is worn almost all the time. The little one (Seecamp .32) is always in my pocket. The knife too. It's not one of these "super tactical" knives that the kids wear these days, but it works well on the three things I use it fo...
