Absolute heresy and an unholy experiment

During a recent extended trip back east, I discovered that among other things I'd left behind my Feather blades AND my Proraso soap. The only store I could find in small town northern Connecticut was a rather depressing K-Mart with a severely limited selection of shaving supplies. My fallback on tri...

It used to be at Linens-n-Things, Bed Bath and Beyond, WalMart and Walgreens. Now we can't find it anywhere except online.

BTW, Walgreens.com has (or at least had) a better price than the Maas website.

The absolute biggest disappointment is that I have to mail-order 99% of the products I use.

Then, in no particular order: Trumper's Skin Food, MWF soap, Derby blades, and the Tabac scent.

My beard is incredibly coarse (think steel wire), and I'm cursed with extra-sensitive skin to boot. Anyway... I did take time to test the gel again as Tony had suggested, but to naught. On Saturday I had a two day growth (c'mon, I was on call for 48 hours, and the ICU has been packed). When I got ho...

Actually, I wrote a rather unappreciative review about the herbal gel (minus Tony's extra-special ingredients) on the "other" board recently. I didn't let it sit on my face very long, so now I've gotta try it again soon. Hopefully I'll have to amend that review. Then again, if I like it, t...

If your new firewall is ZoneAlarm, there are any number of unresolved threads on the ZA forums regarding HP printers and AIO machines that don't play well once ZA is installed. After a year of screwing around (plus two upgrades to ZA) I can finally print to my HP C6180 AIO, but I still can't scan. M...

I finally had time to give the RSC sampler kit another chance. First, I took the time to soak my face in hot water and applied the self-heating mask just as indicated. I got the 3-second burst of heat and let it sit on my face for 5 minutes before rinsing with more hot water. I do like the woodsy, h...

OK, I couldn't stand waiting any longer to try my RSC, but I wanted some known quantities. First up was the self-heating face mask, which was my entire raison d’ entre for the purchase. Washed my face with warm water, then applied it liberally as indicated. Fresh, herbal, woodsy, masculine smell wit...

It's used as a foaming agent, and is essentially dirt-cheap to make. Need I say more?

FYI -- A little ethylene oxide in the appropriate fatty acids, and there ya go. The oft-maligned SLS is made the same way.

Sam -- I just bought a pair of Ray Ban Clubmaster sunglasses thru OC Shades via Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&me=A1ZJ0HXHHESLCO)

Best price I could find on 'em, and they arrived a day earlier than I expected. Highly recommended, based on my single purchase.

OK, I'm ashamed to say that withing 5 minutes of reading this post I made an excuse to my wife (told her I was going back to Home Depot for another post bracket to complete our gate project we did in this morning's blissful 60 degree sunshine) so I could drive to the neighborhood Rite-Aid. Amazing -- absolutely amazing what passes as "science". Almost every citation in the article links to "studies" by the consumer group, the Organic Consumers Association. Interestingly enough, NONE of the folks listed on their website list any sort of scientific credentials whatso...

In all fairness, I've only shaved with my Slim less than a dozen times, but I've preferred my Fatboy since the first shave. Still, my 38C gives me a better shave but probably since I use it almost every day.

This topic is one that frequently annoys me; I've ranted more than once in the past on the misconceptions surrounding PEG, SLS, and the other chemical ingredients that generally increase the efficacy of many cosmetic products. Short rant: I'm going to just say that (1) PEG is *not* anti-freeze and (...

I almost always shave before showering. When I've got to be up at 4am I'll shave the night before, and then of course shower when I roll out of bed in an effort to wake up . I always finish my shaves with the usual warm/cold water splash followed by Thayer's. If I've shaved a bit too close, then the...

The literature has long suggested that shaving leads to increased skin infection; all skin prep is done with clippers. As for routine face-shaving, the last few hospitals in which I've worked stock some sort of cheapie pink disposable, although I see any number of electric razors brought in by famil...
