Re: Review of the "new" Mitchell's Woolfat

At least they kept some lanolin in there so the wool fat name still holds true. I never liked this soap much so it’s one reformulation that won’t affect my rotation at all.

Re: Mitchell's Wool Fat soap no longer contains tallow

At least they haven’t dropped the lanolin yet. Once that goes what will they call it? The soap that formerly contained wool fat?

Re: Aerospace grade magnesium shaving brush

Mg + H2O = MgO + H2. I doubt that there is really any danger of combustion. My hot water tank has a magnesium rod as a sacrificial anode to protect the copper. A shaving brush is a far cry from a flashbulb.

Re: Simpson Brushes History

The lathe work definitely used to be by hand. The tulip an pj series used to have quite a range of curviness. I’d be surprised if the handles are still done that way. Just meeting safety and health would be hard, not to mention the low output. Gone they way of lampblack stamping. Probably nc lathe b...

Re: FS: Extremely Rare Rooney Finest Brushes

A pair of rare beauties. Finest seemed to come in a range of bristle from very scrubby to almost gel. The ones with long white, slightly prickly tips are unmatched in my experience. Some of the vintage high mountain whites and Simpson came close but never matched the finest. Buy one of these and you...

Re: Charcoal Goods Gen-1 Lvl-1/Maze

Looks very nice. I have only tried the gen. 1 Charcoal Goods. I have a brass level 3 with open and closed comb plates on a maze 1 handle. Excellent shaves every time. Also a nice understated razor.

Re: Simpson Brushes History

I hope that this history does come to fruition. After trying just about all of the modern brushes, including the unicorns that take 2 years delivery, I have ended up keeping old Simpsons, Rooneys and Plissons. Overdense, gel tips and otherwise inferior knots make almost all of the modern brushes tha...

Re: Legalize the worlds oldest profession Why?

I’ve read that the system in New Zealand works quite well but I don’t know any of the specific details - easy to google I'm sure. As a practical matter, I think that the industry created by policing and prosecuting these crimes (and small soft drug crimes) place an enormous and ultimately useless bu...

I also joined this forum in 2007. Although I hardly ever post, I enjoy the tone and culture on SMF. Lots of good information. Not too much one_upping with the latest and greatest, biggest, densest… whatever it might be. It’s been disappointing to see the posting taper off to almost nothing. Maybe, l...

FS: Paladin and M&F brushes.

Two very high quality brushes for sale. I used the Paladin about a dozen times from new. I bought the Morris and Forndran on a forum as new and did not use it at all myself. 1. Morris and Forndran Stubby style in off white resin with a slight swirl. Very densely filled with Finest 2-band badger as o...

Re: Synthetic v. Badger - soap/cream consumption

The amount of soap that I have means that efficiency of use is not a good figure of merit for a brush. On the contrary, I like my mid-sized scrubbing brushes that can burn though a puck in a few weeks. I apologize for my scorched earth attitude. Synthetics are better in every practical sense. It’s g...

Wow, very nice. On more than one occasion when I’ve been in Paris the actual museum has been closed due to strikes. This online gallery seems to be excellent. Looks as if it has at least 2000 artworks with multiple images of many.

Re: WTB Declaration Brush

They are currently only offering a knotting service but no brushes as far as I know. I have a B3 knot in a custom handle. This knot really benefits from good break in. Great backbone and scritch, very dense. Refreshingly old school in a world of “gel tips”. Good luck with your search.

Re: Caswell-Massey Shaving Cream

The website says the cream can be used with or without a brush. Any comments on lathering? I’ve not liked the few brushless creams that I’ve tried. They seemed a bit greasy and tended to clog the razor.
