Re: First razor for young son?

Yeah I was thinking a mild razor is what he needs. I’m not a good judge of mildness for a razor. I use a Merkur Slant and am an older man with a old man tough face. So all suggestions are welcome. Searching the forums looks like the Feather Popular is a nice and mild razor also. Thanks and keep the ...

First razor for young son?

My son will start shaving soon. He already has the peach fuzz stash. What would be a good razor to start him on? I don't really want him useing any of mine so was thinking about getting him his own along with a brush and soap.

Re: What I learned in 7 years away from the shaving forums

My story is almost the same as yours. I joined in 07 and my last login was in 2012. I probably checked in a few times since then but not much. I also settled on a few products that work well for me and have just used those in the last 4 years or so. Believe it or not I have just about ran out of bla...

Re: The March 1st post you have been waiting for!

Hi Bill - If you have been using a VDH brush happily for the last year, then you have learned to exploit its virtues to greatest effect and you have developed your lathering technique around those virtues. A different brush will behave differently, and you may, or may not, like it (at least, at fir...

Re: The March 1st post you have been waiting for!

Zach thanks for your response. The VDH did and even still does give up a hair every now and then. It doesn't really bother me at all. I may still order an Omega just for the heck of it.

Re: The March 1st post you have been waiting for!

I've been happy with a VDH boar brush for over a year I've never used any other brush. Are the other boar brushes really noticably better? If so why? I've been tempted to order a $ 12 ish Omega a few times and just haven't done it.

John, Well, I always tend to get that if there's a lot of blade exposure, which is why I prefer less, ie, 'mild' shavers. I never found that the adjustables on the higher settings gave me any better/closer shave, they merely gave me irritation. Regards, Gordon I've slowly learned the same thing. I ...

I cut off the end of your sentence just to remind you of something.
Yeah I know I like it. I don't think that should prevent me from trying something new though. However, I am leaning on just sticking with what I have, like most are implying.

No it doesn't have to be an adjustable. I just kind of thought the Progress dialed down could be a mild shaver. Is the HD pretty mild? Remember I like my Gillette set at 2 or 3.

Well, if I was going to only keep 1 razor and only use that one yeah my Gillette would be the one. However, I was thinking of trying something new. I think so far you all have almost talked me out of trying the M. P.

Progress too aggressive

I'm thinking of trying a Progress. If you dial them down do they become a gentle razor? I now use a Gillette slim set at 2 and am very happy with my results. Also does the Progress click into the different levels like the Gillette does when setting it?

Well I did the ATG for a week and for me I'll keep doing it as a quick shave. I think my normal shave is going to end up being 1 WTG and then 1 ATG.

I haven't been DE shaveing as long as you but I also shave with a DE mainly because it is fun. I'm pretty sure it isn't going to be any cheaper than the canned stuff and a trac II even though that is the reason I gave myself to switch. LOL

Well I am guessing this 1 pass needs a sharp blade. I'm feeling it a little bit today, and the shave seemed to tug a little. I normally get 7 days from a blade and this is only 3 days.

Yeah I was a little surprised myself. I do need to still do a little cleanup on the neck and chin. I'm going to stick this 1 pass out for the rest of the week but I'm guessing my normal shave will be a 2 pass, 1 WTG and then 1 pass ATG.

Oh no ATG

Hi I have used a 2 blade razor and canned foam for 25 years or so. Because of the price and move to 3 4 5 blade razors I started looking and switched to using a DE razor and a brush and cream. I have been using a gillette adjustable, set to 4, and the VDH soap and the bigelow cream. Well everything ...
