Well, I guess it is hit or miss with a barbershop shave. And the more we hone our own skills, the less impressive they are. A straight razor shave at the AOS store in Vegas (Mandalay Bay) actually brought me into wet shaving and this forum shortly thereafter. At that time, I was hacking myself with ...

I actually left the worst part of the story out, because I was embarrassed I couldn't stop it before it happened. The "barber", after hacking away at me, started "cleaning up" his mess with an electric shaver! There, I said it! I stopped him and asked politley to let it go before...

The Good The Bad and The UGLY!

In reverse order The UGLY: A straight razor shave I got at a local barbershop. I saw the sign out front and thought, "what the heck!" I was actually pretty excited in anticipation as I had walked by the place like three or four times before I actually decided to give it a try. The guy put ...

Wet Shaving expenses seem to have tapered off for me. I bought a Merkur HD and a mid grade Omega Brush. Then when I decided I liked it I bought a Lined Chatsworth and a Polo Simpson. I tried several different aftershaves, colognes, and soaps but now stick to basically one soap, one aftershave splash...

Although it appears to be a less popular purpose, I will use some talc on my neck if I am going to wear a tie for a long period of time - and if I remember to apply it. Especially when it is hot. I have found that a sweaty neck has led to irritation and even ingrown hairs. The talc seems to have pre...

I have to agree with Gordon that my favorite scent combination is lavendar (I have TOBS) and English Fern. Especially for this time of year. Unfortunately, I think the lavendar cream bothers my skin so I don't get to enjoy this combo as much as I'd like.

This was a cologne for men to wear. You didn't like it, but the woman did. Makes sense then, that it would be a cologne for men to wear, right? To attract women. I think your illustration proves the point that some colognes are for attracting men, some for attracting women. Which ones you want to we...

I think you are right about haste. But then, once there is irritation, no matter how slow and deliberate I go, it may get worse. I also think going too slow effects the way my razor cuts the hair, so there is a balance. Really slow can mean more passes which can cause more irritation. I can basicall...

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have been experiencing the exact same problem and was about to post a thread on it. I use Derby blades, simpson brush, mama bear soap and usually a Lined Chatsworth razor, but if things get too crazy, I will switch back to the Merkur HD which is slightly less...

I didn't know you guys could see it outside Florida. I live about 100 miles or so from the space station and it was pretty incredible in the sunset. Probably the best one I have ever seen. Caught it totally by chance, but when you see it going up, there is no mistaking it for anything else.

I agree but with a warning. If you have hair that grows curly or flat against your neck, waiting an extra day or so can allow the hair to grow back into your skin and cause irritation and bumps. These can really only be cured by dislodging the hair first. For me I can go about 2 days at the absolute...

I have found that Bigalo makes a rose cold cream for removing dirt and so forth that is/was? sold at Bath and Body. I will apply this without water to my face before my shower, let it sit for a minute or so, then jump in the shower. After my shower, my face has that same great, slightly heavey and m...

My last taylors purchase included Rose, Almond, Lavendar and Avacado. I had previously tried Sandlewood. The rose was perfect consistency, as was the sandlewood and lavendar. The avacado and almond were both very watery. I like the rose smell probably the best, with lavendar a close second. The Lave...

For what its worth, I get a better shave from mama bear lather than I do from AOS Soap, C&E Soap or TOBS Cream or trumpers cream. In other words, better than anything else I have tried. I have to caution that what I mean is that my skin feels the best and looks the best after a mama bear shave. ...

I agree with Murray on this one. The Cartridge is faster and easier to use. For many, that means better. Its all in how you frame the question. To me, (now that I have learned about the DE), better means more enjoyable day in - day out, with less tendancy to shred my skin or cause ingrowns. For me, ...
