Re: Big Spring Cleaning Sale: Blades, Razor, AS & Frags

Sold the Yatagan on eBay. It's a good scent maybe a bit too "robust" for me...

Re: New shaving soap from Penhaligons

It's a shame refills are not available (yet). It would certainly make giving it a go a bit more economical.

In Tokyo the thing to look for is after shave. My favorite is Lucido. Auslese (pale green version) is good and Burley Lime passed my sniff test but I haven't tried it. Lucido is easy to find (avoid the light version in the plastic bottle) and so is Auslese but I've only seen the Burley in Tokyu Hands.

Thanks for the discount. I've been wanting to try your products. Just ordered 3 soaps and a cream. I'll have to be patient though until my assignment in Bangalore is finished.

Does this one take proprietary blades? I seem to recall that being the case with the other Gibbs razors I've seen.

I'm very fond Pliny and the other Russian River variants on the style. Firestone is quite good and has won at least a couple of golds at the GABF. Big Time in Seattle brews a few that are dear to my heart and when on the East coast I find myself opening my wallet for Long Trail and Dogfish 60. I als...

I'd advise against rubbing alcohol because of it's scent. Vodka or Everclear would be preferable.

Daniel, Something you may want to consider is that at Simpsons (Progress Brush) they consider “3 or 4 hairs lost per shave perfectly normal”. While I have been fond of their brushes in the past and own five, I will not buy any more because I disagree with this position. Out of the five I own, two we...

Yes Mike, that's them. When sold without the razor they will be on blue cards. They came in dispensers of 5, 10 and even 15. The 2 blade dispensers were packaged with some razors as in your pic.

Mike, If you haven't tried them, you should add the old US Gillette Platinum-Plus blades to this vintage blade quest. They are the ones with silver dispenser on blue cards. Very fine blades IMO.

Gary, I've enjoyed reading your posts and would surly miss them. Many that post here don't participate in the other shaving forums for similar reasons that you have come across. As the French say, vive la différence. One need not participate in all, just where the discourse suits you and where you c...

The deal breaker for me with Italian soaps is that odd amaretto scent that most sport. It seems pretty artificial and I just don't care for it. I think I was scared for life by that bizarre pistachio ice cream often encountered in my youth. It had the same flavor and a somewhat less than natural gre...

Trade Joe's has hugh bars of French made Lavender soap for a little more than $3. It may be made by Pre de Provence. It sure looks similar. It gets my seal of approval.

Didn't they do a limited run of balsam scented soap? I think I remember reading that somewhere. Always wanted to give it a go but didn't see it for sale anywhere.
