perhaps I'm jumping the gun on this one, but how long usually does the lacquer last on those old razors? I ask because the one I just got looked like it had been used maybe once before I got it (I did find some stubble) but otherwise it is practically new. I just am curious if I should even be worry...

As a newbie I can only offer a little input. I used to always later everything in a bowl, and with creams I would take a little scoop out with my finger and put it in the bowl and try to make lather. That really never got me anywhere. For creams in a tub I get as much of the excess water out as I ca...

will do. I just thought I read someplace that EO scents don't last as long as fragrance oils. I wasn't sure what was up so I though I'd ask.

D'Oh, I should have read the paragraphs at the top of the webpage where razors were not date coded until 1951. That being said I checked the blades that came with it and they are U-1 so that means the razor was made sometime between 1942 and 1949, but assuming the blades are any indication, the razo...

help dating a Tech

I just got my Gillette Tech in the mail and I need some help dating it. The razor doesn't seem to have any date stampings under the head like the SuperSpeeds have. It just says Pat Nos on box. The most recent patent that is on the box is 2,270,388 which was issued January 20, 1942. The tech is gold ...

EO in shave soaps

I have ordered a small stock of Mama Bear EO shave soaps as I have had some very good luck with the first tub i ordered. Obviously, I am now in soap for quite a while. On average, how long will the EO stay "good" in the soap as I have heard that EO doesn't keep as long as fragrance oil. I ...

Maybe there is hope for me yet. I never did like my Mach3 (only used it a few months) and went back to my Gillette Sensor which was my mainstay until now.

I have now three old Gillettes to try. 2 SuperSpeeds and a Tech on the way.

I found that a good way to get that reside off a razor from metal polish is to go at with a toothbrush and Dawn dish detergent. Really, by the time it was run through with metal polish (I used a tooth brush for this) then scrubbed with hot water and dish soap (I just used the same tooth brush) to ge...

issue while polishing "new" razor

Well the two super speeds I bought from TheLionhearted arrived today and so I went over to Target, bought some metal polish and some mineral oil (which I did not know was a laxative...) and went to town. Well on one, one of the side shields popped off. It almost looks like it used to be a spot weld ...

holy bat guano. I took that into consideration today shaving a two day beard and my face doesn't hurt at all. Two passes even. Not the greatest shave ever, but "shaving par" as Manic puts it. I didn't even need after shave balm. So that's the story...

Merkur HD not symmetric?

I was looking today closely at my HD after putting in a fresh blade and I notice that one side the blade sticks out a few more mm than the other side. I assume that means one side of my HD is more "aggressive" than the other, right? Is that a normal thing? shouldn't both sides be symmetric...

don't most soap producers sell refill pucks? you could get one of those and just put it in whatever you'd like... most seem to be a pretty standard size/shape from what I have seen in my limited shopping

ok, I have been shaving with my Merkur HD now for a month or more, and I can't master the neck. I would like to try a "milder" razor and cannot decide between a super speed or a tech.

Techs are available like crazy on eBay but super speeds seem to demand a bit more of a premium. Any ideas?
